Across the courtyard from the Forks Market is the four-storey Johnston Terminal building. Originally constructed in 1930, the terminal was a warehouse and freight-forwarding facility erected by Carter-Halls-Aldinger Company, and cost an estimated $134,700. After a substantial addition in 1930, the warehouse was at the time one of the largest in Winnipeg, containing over 9,300 square metres (100,000 sq ft) of usable space. It was occupied by National Storage and Cartage until 1961, and was leased to the Johnston National Cartage Company for the next 15 years. Vacated in 1977, the building was unoccupied until the redevelopment of the site into The Forks. The original developers, Artis REIT, continue to own and manage Johnston Terminal.
The building is now home to a variety of specialty boutiques and stores, offices, a café, and The Old Spaghetti Factory.[11] The basement of the building hosts the Johnston Terminal Antique Mall, which features over 30 consigners and 7,000 square feet (650 m2) of new merchandise brought in daily.

Description: At Long Beach Container Terminal on the morning of August 20, 2016, Vaporizer Tank was brought to the side of the vessel, adjacent to Bay 70 and was rigged using four (4) lifting padeyes with shackles. Unit was lifted from specialized trailer and while unit was coming into hatch, unit came in contact with the vessel’s lashing bridge, causing rolling door harness / cover to crush and pull apart from piece on left side.
Vertical door guide on left side also endured light indentions and minor crushing. Cargo was then loaded across 8 flatracks without incident.

The UPA government at the center was formed with the outside support of the Left. Though some positive steps were taken by the UPA government, like the abolition of POTA .
adoption of the Right to Information Act, adoption of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (being implemented i~ 200 districts), progressive legislations on Domestic Violence and property rights for women, the 93n:t Constitution Amendment for expanding the scope of reservations to private institutions, includmg 27% OBC reservation in higher education; over two years of UPA rule has also meant an intensification of the sufferings of the people and a continuation of the same nee-liberal agenda. .
Even today the promises made in the CMP for spending 6% of the GOP on education and 2-3% on health remain unfulfilled. Communal violence in Mau, Kargil, Goa, Aligarh and Vadodara has been accompanied by attacks on minorities in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Yet, the proposed 'Prevention of Communal Violence Bill' has not been adopted. Food grains and petroleum products have witnessed a steep price hike, thereby, further intensifying the misery of the people. Farmers are committing suicide by the thousands. Instead of embarking upon debt relief, easy farm loans, crop insurance etc, the UPA is seeking to usher in the so-called "Second Green Revolution" based on corporate driven export led agriculture. The relief package announced by the Prime Minister for the farmers of Vidarbha region is far from adequate. The PDS system of our country is failing to cater to the vast majority of the poor, with even the Planning Commission accepting that 57% of those who should be identified as BPL are being excluded from the PDS. The Scheduled Tribes (Recognition of Forest Rights) Bill is yet to be adopted and is being fiercely debated. FDI has been introduced in Retail Trade, thereby, jeopardizing the livelihood of millions. Privatization of airports and the mining sector is being pursued. The SEZ Act has unfolded as a threat to the lrte and livelihood of the farmers and the rural poor. The Women's Reservation Bill is still pending and no measures for providing social security to those working in the vastly growing unorganized sector has been adopted. .
Additionally, the foreign policy of our country has witnessed continuous kowtowing to the pressures of imperialism lndia's· vote on Iran in the IAEA, growing military collaborations with the US, and the Indo-US Nuclear Deal have repeatedly shown the willingness of the UPA to bow down to US interests. The pressures of the Left have ensured some retreat by the UPA on several anti-people and pro-imperialist policies; however, any significant departure from the neo-liberal paradigm has not been witnessed. .
The role of the Left at the national level has included blocking anti-people legislations in the Parliament and intensifying the struggle for people's rights. A favourable climate has been created at the national level for people's issues. Left-led struggles as well as other people's struggles have dominated the national discourse. Be it the struggle of farmers in Rajasthan, worker's struggle in Himachal Pradesh, students struggle in Kerala or the struggles against the AFSPA, or by NBA activists or the tribals in Kalinganagar. Left governments in West Bengal and Kerala have also forwarded concrete alternatives in the form of the rehabilitation model in Singur or the Kerala Education Bill. .
The student movement of JNU witnessed primarily defensive struggles under the BJP-Ied NDA government against the arrest of 63 students in 1999, the Bahri Commission of Enquiry (instituted to investigate lSI activities in JN U), the imposition of the Code of Conduct seeking to ban student politics in JNU, the starting of self-financing courses with a fees of Rs15000/-for three months in SIT and the Xth Plan Proposals seeking to saffronize education in JNU. Simultaneously, struggles to advance student rights in the form of 6 new hostels in the era of funds cut, the formation of the GSCASH, the format1on of the Equal Opportunity Office, free computer-with-internet facility, etc were also fought by SFI-AISF led unions. .
There is a greater need today for the student movement of J NU to fight battles for the advancement of student's rights in a changed political context. This year the agitation led by tne JNUSU has ensured increased MCM for needy students as well as student representation in AC and BoS. These are major gains in terms of advancing the democratic rights of students and will go a long way in ensuring that needy students do not have to leave their education for want pf funds. Based on the JNUSU demand, the UGC has announced further fellowships for students all over our country. .
At this juncture it is important for the J N U students movement to link with struggles outside along with intensifying struggles on campus level issues. There is a greater need to put pressure upon the government to increase the overall expenditure on education to 6% of the GOP along with ensuring social justice, gender equality and intellectual self-reliance. The SF! calls upon all members and sympathizers to build a stronger student movement in JNU instead of one which is divided and non .. .
