Fast forwarding the flight. I often envy who manages to sleep in that metal box.

I've been trying to install a MythTV backend on my QNAP NAS for a couple of weeks (using this guide: wiki.qnap.com/wiki/How_to_install_MythTV), and with a lot of help from the QNAP forum (MythTV Backend Scheduler) I got pretty far.

There's only one tiny thing that doesn't work... I don't have any fonts what so ever when I run mythtv-setup...

So I decided to install MythTV on a machine with a GUI (in this case the Asus EEE pad Transformer (Android tablet running Ubuntu), which is seen to the right in the picture). Then I could run the setup simultaneously on that and the NAS, to make out what to push where :o)

What the heck does this mean? I need an answer. I am forwarding this to one of our secretaries at work as her husband owns this station.

Sunday, 06 August 2017: Tokyo - Shibuya & Harajuku

Rosa and I are (literally) chilling out back at the hotel after a whole day out on the hottest day so far. We headed out en masse at 9am to Shibuya's 'Scramble' Crossing (渋谷区). It has 1 million people per hour crossing on weekend afternoons - but not nearly so many at 10am on Sunday :) There were lots of people there, but a fair proportion were tourists! All good for photos mind you.

Next stop on the Loop Line was Harajuku (原宿) where we made a slow procession down the main shopping alley/street and back up again. Very Camden Market if you've been there, in terms of types of shop, clientele and density of people. Some crazy things on sale (which is one of the reasons to go there) - giant ice cream shaped 'sticks' of candy floss in all the colours of the rainbow, umbrellas with samurai sword handles (I was quite tempted), cosplay costumes.... and a Claire's Accessories!

Lunch at the Kawaii Monster Cafe was actually a really good experience of a classic crazy 'it could only exist in Japan' concept. I'd describe it as lunch with Willy Wonka and the Oompa Loompas - multi coloured larger than life fibreglass/plastic scenery including a birthday cake merry go round centrepiece, twirling cupcakes and umbrellas, giant plastic rabbits and sheep, candy cane archways - with dining tables and booths in between. Periodically the kawaii (cute) dancers would come out and get everyone around the merry go round cake clapping along and then doing a simple hand jive, and then came around the tables to have photos taken, with the multi coloured monster (very Monsters, Inc) in tow. You might have had to be there! We've lots of photos but I'm not sure they will do it justice. I could easily have been really tacky and done on the cheap, but it wasn't.

After lunch we went with dad and daughter San Franciscans, Granted and Skylee, to an Owl Cafe, where you get a drink and then half an hour petting 8 different owls. As I've said to Rosa, definitely something I would NEVER have done if I'd come to Japan on a different trip.

Then a stroll into the welcome shade of the Meiji Shrine (明治神宮) gardens and onto the shrine itself. It's undergoing renovations so you can't go inside the main hall. Definitely too hot for further strolling around Yoyogi Park (代々木公園). So back here for a shower and a cup of tea.

We're heading out again in a short while to go to the Observation Deck in Sunshine City (サンシャイン60) just down the road from the hotel for a night time view over Tokyo. Then dinner - Charlea flagged a couple of places that do veggie options for me when we were out last night, so Rosa and I plan to pick one of those.

Tomorrow is supposed to start with a tour of Tsukiji Fish Market, but they had a fire there earlier in the week and Charlea wasn't sure if we'd be able to go. She's not mentioned it since, so fingers crossed. I might spend a lot of time avoiding looking at the dead fish, but it's A Tokyo Must!

FILMATION "FAT ALBERT" ANIMATION MODEL

Here is an email I just received, thought it might be interesting and sad:

Re: Jay Scheimer‏

From: AMangels

Sent: Fri 2/20/09 4:05 PM

To:

I'm forwarding this message along to you as either a past Filmation employee or as a Filmation fan.

I'm in shock at this news, although it was not unexpected.

Jay Scheimer played many voices in Filmation cartoons, including at times Fat Albert's mother and Queen Marlena in He-Man. Additionally, she was Lou's wife for 56 years. The two met while Lou was at Carnegie Tech, and he told her on the first night they met that he was going to marry her. Three-and-a-half years later, they were married on December 20, 1953. They moved to California in 1955, and Lou started working in animation shortly thereafter. Jay has been by his side ever since, until today.

Email condolences may be sent to Lou at lou@louscheimerproductions.org

In a message dated 2/20/09 10:18:09 AM, amy rosenberg writes:

Dear Friends and Loved Ones:

For those of you who may not yet know, Jay Scheimer passed away late last night at Tarzana Medical Center. Please forgive the email notice, but this proves to be the most expedient method of letting you all know.

The Scheimer family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers etc that any donations in honor of Jay be made to the National Parkinson Foundation. For your convenience, here is a link to their web site page.

Deep thanks to all for your many calls and concern.

On behalf of Lou and Erika, and with much love,

Thwart the vile Leftist Cult Media from hiding president Trump's accomplishments, by simply forwarding this marvelous news to your friends and family. Just click the curved arrow in the lower right corner, and you can chose how to forward this great news of more winning !

===============

Read below, how YOU can Use YOUR 'Circle of Influence' to FIGHT BACK against the Leftist Cult takeover of America, starting NOW, as the 2020 elections rapidly approach !

===============

Another WIN by president Trump ! .....

....and, yet another Leftist Cult Media COVER UP - HIDING president Trump's many, many accomplishments for America and the American People !

It has now been revealed that president Trump not only made a state visit to Japan's revered Sumo Wrestling Grand Championship Match, but, he also PARTICIPATED in the matches themselves.

Apparently, president Trump actually had at least one Sumo match with one of these 400++ pound, professional Japanese Sumo wrestlers!....and WON !!!

But, this amazing NEWS is being HIDDEN by the Leftist FAKE NEWS organizations, per usual.

Above we see a picture of president Trump SLAMMING one of these behemoth Sumo wrestlers to the mat! A huge shudder must have rocked the whole arena, as president Trump slammed him down into the mat!

Our sources are telling us that president Trump trained for the Sumo Wrestling Matches for a number of weeks, in a Sumo ring constructed in the Rose Garden of the White House grounds.

Professional Sumo wrestlers were brought in from Japan to teach the president the methods of Sumo wrestling, and to spar with president Trump.

President Trump also ate heavily during his Sumo training, consuming massive meals of rice and bean paste and other traditional meals eaten by Sumo wrestlers, but, soon switched over to eating large numbers of McDonald's 'Happy Meals', saying that if he was going to beat HUGE professional Japanese Sumo wrestlers, that he would get HUGE himself, but, on good ole' American food.

President Trump apparently didn't need to gain much weight, as he is already a large, strong man, and a natural athlete. Despite being over 70 years old, but, still amazingly young looking, vigorous, and a stable genius, he was able to beat this young, HUGE, professionally trained Japanese Sumo wrestler, and, it has been revealed by our sources, that the match was not even close, as president Trump almost immediately slammed the unfortunate Sumo wrestler to the mat.

The Japanese audience was stunned into momentary silence, at first, but then massive applause erupted in the HUGE arena, as president Trump bowed to the crowd, turning to each of the four corners of the arena, and bowing in the traditional manner of the Sumo wrestlers.

Sources within the administration are now considering the idea of setting up Sumo Wrestling Summit meetings with various heads of state, to resolve diplomatic matters by pitting president Trump against other national leaders in Sumo matches. These international matters would be resolved by who wins the Sumo matches between president Trump and the various heads of state.

The leader of North Korea, Kim Il Jung is considered to be one such candidate to resolve matters with a Sumo Wrestling match.

One White House source stated that the first such Sumo Summit might be held with the dictator of North Korea, "Why not Kim Il Jung?", the Whitehouse official said. " He's already fat, and we think president Trump, given his proven success against these massive professional Sumo wrestlers, should be able to easily take out little 'Rocket Man'. "

Fast forwarding...

After the hull is formed, I begin the next process which is to 'copper' the hull.

The hull is not actually coppered, but simulated to appear that actual copper is used. This process is done by carefully drawing in the plates and indenting them with a utility knife. The result is a beautiful symmetrical pattern of {multi-colored) plates which give a realistic appearance of copper sheathing.

Fast forwarding...

As I progressed with the miniature, I discovered a few rare photos that showed her stern at an earlier period. On the name board was the inscription "CHARLES W. MORGAN - PROVINCETOWN".

Hailing out of New Bedford, MA -was Provincetown, MA another place of operation for this whaler?

I have always regarded my miniatures as rare, one-of-a-kind pieces. Moreso because of the extensive research and findings. I also attempt to incorporate details that are seldom overlooked in contemporary pieces which many collectors with a discerning eye seem to grasp. This, inpart, establishes the work to be highend.

The coppering details is nothing more than scaling and drawing each 'plate' on the bare wood -and painting without adding any primer to the surface.
