A road trip and a new project! Railway Stations of Western Canada. This one is in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
A trip of SD40-2's switch the large Sherritt complex on the east side of Fort Saskatchewan Alberta. For a more in depth look at the SD's and CN's operations in the area, check out AJ Shewan's article in the February 2021 issue of Railfan and Railroad
Before the SD's migrated to Scotford yard, the switching duties were handled by GMD-1's. I don't recall ever comparing diesels to fruit, but I'll agree with the billboard on the goodness part!
Parks Canada placing a pair of red chairs throughout our National Parks. I thought there was only one pair of chair at Elk Island, this is the second pair :-) A nice find.

Loaded crude oil train U732 passes over Highway 15 with a clean ES in the lead. The highway is scheduled to be twinned in the near future, although I'm not sure what the plan is for the bridge
Probably going to be my last snowy of the 2015-2016 winter season. Not sure if I've photographed this particular one before. It was in a location that I have photographed a specific snowy, but this one did not appear to be banded/marked - or it might be that the marker dye had come off
Scotford nr Ft Saskatchewan at 1522hrs, a few minutes after sunset.
Was returning from Elk Island NP on Hwy 15 and the steam rising from the plants was incredible. Temp was around -19'c. Amazing light and hardcore, pulled over to take a few near the crossing RR 214.
I've taken several images at Elk Island NP from Sandy Beach on Astotin Lake, the Buffalo Loop, or smaller ponds. This time I walked along the trail on the south side of Astotin Lake to a point that faces Griesbach Island. Looking north, it's an image I've had in mind for about a year. Wading through tall reeds, settled in a spot where they bordered open water, about 2 ft deep. Stood for about an hour as the aurora played itself out.
Rare Noctilucent clouds glow in the early morning over Astotin Lake in Elk Island NP. This panoramic view spans west to north and orange glow is light pollution from Edmonton
By patiently lying in wait amongst the petals of a milkweed flower, a female Goldenrod Crab Spider has caught herself a nice meal.
The late afternoon winter sunlight glints off three CN SD40-2Ws as they round the corner at Beamer Jct. with train L522.
Caught the Moon rising over High Island shortly after sunset.
For reference, it was approximately 4 degrees above the horizon.

Heavy smoke from the BC wildfires moved into central Alberta for several days, AQHI of 10 here (High Risk)
In retrospect, the sky was grimmer than I thought; hazy with smoke from the BC wildfires. Still, several were on the water, canoeing, paddle boarding and kayaking. And... I've never seen so many loons in one place before, pretty cool. They followed the canoe ... then followed the paddle boarder in the opposite direction, interesting.

The crew onboard L522 is almost finished their day as they round the curve at Beamer Jct. and approach the massive industrial complex in Fort Saskatchewan.
This copper art piece depicts a young family arriving by train to start a life in Fort Saskatchewan in the early 1900s. The statue can be found beside the CN train station, in-front of Legacy Park. Artists: Don and Shirley Begg

I was shooting the trees on the other side of this pond, and then looked down and noticed this delicate plant in the shallows. What a find and gem

Found two SOs that day while some manage to find at least five in a single day. Enjoy!
Seen at the 'Fort' in Fort Saskatchewan. They have a small herd of sheep that are keeping the grass 'mowed' in the park. An old sheep dog and handler were also on hand to make sure they didn't stray!! This little guy looked so tired!!

It's a snow day today, I thought I should post a Snowy Owl image. It was captured right around blue hour of the day. The owl was tame enough for me to get a near filled-frame shot. The owl didn't do much, unfortunately.
Enjoy and have a great weekend!
