so I'm at the beach in Fort Pierce Florida, when all of sudden this Heron is coming right at me, so what do I do, take the picture, right!
This historic Treasure Coast home was turned into a visitors center in downtown Ft. Pierce. The structure was built in 1905.
In 1943 the House of Seven Gables was turned into a house of prostitution and was frequented by servicemen during WWII.
In 1987 it was sold at auction and used as a taxidermy studio. In 1997 the house was donated to the city of Fort Pierce and moved to its present location on June 31, 1998.
In 2000 the St. Lucie Chamber of Commerce opened the house as a visitor's center providing information about things to do in the area and places to stay and eat at. The volunteers who work here answer visitors questions and also give free tours of the house. If you are in the area it is worth a stop especially since the A. E. Backus Museum and Gallery and Manatee Observation and Education Center are located on either side of the House of Seven Gables.

This area has had some heavy rains. Rain water has collected in some spots and wading birds love that. Saw several foraging ibises, egrets and little blue herons today. Sometimes I get closer to the birds when I shoot from the car.

I just came out for some morning coffee and the sun .... and was greeted with this unexpected but welcomed greeting about three feet from my front door .... not a bad way to start the day .....

Fort Pierce is a city in and the county seat of St. Lucie County, Florida, United States. The city is part of the Treasure Coast region of Atlantic Coast Florida. It is also known as the Sunrise City, sister to San Francisco, California, the Sunset City. The population was 41,590 at the 2010 census. As of 2012, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 42,645. It was named after the Fort Pierce Army post which was built nearby in 1838 during the Second Seminole War. The military post had been named for Benjamin Kendrick Pierce, a career United States Army officer and the brother of President Franklin Pierce.
Fort Pierce was awarded the 2005 City of Excellence Award by the Florida League of Cities for overall excellence in city government and in 2011, Main Street Fort Pierce, Inc. received the Great American Main Street Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation in downtown.
