Just because something is over does not mean that we can't look back on a time fondly. It's not a weakness to finish something and not hate a person.
Strength is not moving on and forgetting about and resenting a person. Strength is coming to terms with an end knowing that the world keeps turning whether we like it or not.
That's what makes us who we are.
Everyone you've ever loved and lost in any capacity has shaped you in one way or another.
We grow from pain and heartache and everything else that is thrown at us in life.
I love these photos that in my eyes are so raw with feelings of the greatest time in my 23 years of life. Why wouldn't I share them when to me, they contain such beauty?
As I've grown in my photography I've come to learn that I live and love through the photographs that I take. It's both a blessing and a curse. My only regret is that I didn't share these particular photos earlier when maybe they mattered more.
These photos were made in March 2015 between my home in Blackburn, Manchester and Bangor, Wales.
It was a whirlwind few days. Stressful. And without her, I'm not sure I could have done it.
And I don't say that lightly as I'm used to being alone and having to cope by myself.
I wanted to shoot this natural beauty on black and white film with my old Olympus OM10. The idea being that I wanted to have some tangible, physical memories. Not just something floating around in the digital ether as is most always the case these days.
When you shoot on film you don't just take as many photos as you can and hope at least one of them looks good. You put your faith in every click of those 26 shots that whatever it is that you're looking at is in focus and that the shutter speed is set right and you've got the right aperture for the ISO of the film.
You think about every. Last. Shot.
Every one counts.
When it came to developing the film it was her birthday and I was shaking. One wrong move and the photos would be gone, lost forever.
I thought I'd almost messed up after I accidentally exposed the film whilst pouring out the stop-bath. Thankfully not.
Digital is a godsend in this world of ever-greater immediacy.
However, there's nothing quite like shooting film.

A little corner in Rye, East Sussex - I liked the warmth from the light in the window.

Butovo mass shooting ground
Butovo shooting range is a former private estate near the village of Drozhzhino in the Yuzhnoye Butovo District south of Moscow that was seized by the Soviets after the 1917 revolution and thereafter used by their secret police as an agricultural colony, shooting range, and from 1938 to 1953 as a site for executions and mass graves of persons deemed "enemies of the people." During Josef Stalin's Great Terror from 1937 to 1938, more than 20,000 political prisoners were transported to the site and executed by gunshot. Victims included Béla Kun, Gustav Klutsis, Seraphim Chichagov, and a number of Orthodox priests later canonized as the New Martyrs. The Russian Orthodox Church took over the ownership of the lot in 1995 and had a large Russian Revival memorial church erected there.

A few Forget-me-nots from a hike along the Marston Creek Trail, W of Longview. I always like to see the tiny, pink buds of these flowers. Am late posting again this evening. Have been out on a trip all morning, seeing about 30 of the largest or most unusual tree species in the city. Straight afterwards, I was on a walk in Fish Creek Park all afternoon, ending with a lovely BBQ at a friend's house. Thanks so much, Dorothy and Stephen, for this delightful treat. A most enjoyable walk first and then a delicious meal to finish off the day!
Sneak-peek of the poster I will be printing for what promises to be an amazing gig myself and the other WYSAS boys are putting on.

Forget Paris has disbanded since the last time they appeared in my photosream. But Tyler has put a new group of guys together and is moving forward keeping the Forget Paris name. I was happy to work with Tyler and the new guys and can't wait to hear the new sound.

My son's wife has a place in the London marathon next year. She is running in aid of St Catherine's Hospice in Crawley in memory of my late wife. The runners were given this "Forget Me Not" pencil. It has seeds in the green end and the whole pencil can be planted (see here)
