Harry Palmer: Oh, by the way, is old Klaus Burger still alive?
Police officer: The forger?
Harry Palmer: Yeah, the forger.
Police officer: I'd like to run you out of Berlin, Palmer! You and MI5 and the Deuxième Bureau and the CIA and the rest of them. Then I can do my job instead of providing work for every forger, confidence man, thief, and murderer in this town!
Harry Palmer: Oh, I agree, I agree, I agree. But... is old man Klaus still alive?

D - Door/Doorway
When one door closes, another one opens. That’s true in doll life as well! Create a photo that includes either a door or a doorway in the photo. There are many possibilities for this theme. Think traditional doors such as front doors and closets. Think less traditional doors such as car doors and doggy doors (OMGoodness, how cute is that?). Think reeeeaallly nontraditional doors such as a portal to a new dimension. You may also choose to not use a door at all and only include a doorway. How you approach this theme is entirely up to you. The only requirement for this challenge is that we must see a doll and a physical representation of a door/doorway in some way.

AKA: The Art Forger in his Studio (Homage to Vermeer)
AKA: The Ribbon of Time part 2 of 3
This picture was inspired by my love for the art of Johannes Vermeer, whose paintings always make you feel like you are looking in on an intimate scene of daily life from a doorway, with elements half hidden or off to the side. He was brilliant in so many ways that I would have to write a thesis about him. This is my humble homage to his work The Art Of Painting/ The Painter in his Studio.
This is the second tableau from my Ribbon of Time creating images from the 16th, 17th and ??? centuries... but time is not what we think and in fact my artist is a forger whose copies of the works of Bronzino, Botticelli, Lorenzetti and Salvator Rosa span several centuries...

#bootlegsquadtember is back, baby! It's time for year two. Though obviously, if you're only here on Flickr, I'm way behind. I've been posting daily on Instagram, but it took a bit longer than expected to get the group photos together for here, so I'll be playing catchup until the end of the month.
If you're unfamiliar with Bootleg Squadtember, we're making knockoff/bootleg Suicide Squad members based on different character archetypes from the history of the Squad. The characters for each day are laid out in a post from Allo/doc.zink, and the list is also different from last years, so make sure you find the right one!
Left to right:
Kotton Kandi, The Clown Girl: Based on Harley Quinn - She seems sweet and all at first, until she has her candy floss garrote around your neck.
Forger, The Gun Summoner: Based on Bloodsport - Forger has basically one thought: anything can be a gun if you have the right tools.
Man-Spider, The Arachnid: Based on Black Spider - The Man-Spider will stop at nothing to ruin the people that created his horrible condition. And he'll probably also eat some flies.
Demon Cat, The Feline Fury: Based on Cheetah - Those eyes are possessed by the fiercest of felines - a house cat.
Plaid Lad, The Pattern-Crook: Based on Polka-Dot-Man - He says he has powers over all the plaid in the world, but honestly we haven't seen him do much so far.
Check out the non-Bootleg versions!
Inspired by the book I'm currently reading, Velesova Kniga (The Book Of Veles), allegedly the oldest account on history of Slavic people, written in the ancient Russian city Novgorod over several hundred years and finished in 9th century. A complete forgery according to most historians, the book was written on birch bark tablets, hence the birch bark book (btw warping tree bark is a BITCH!) . Another thing I found endearing is the forgerer's sense of humour - the book was not named after any of the "high" deities but after Veles, the god of magic and trickery (amongst other things)
So this picture is completely fake, the mask is from Uruguay and the magic bracelet is from Indonesia; or it might not be, as subconscious which gives rise to mythology is amazingly similar around the world.
This Justice League is from the recent Justice/Doom War series. In the Sixth Dimension, the World Forger (one of the three sons of Perpetua) created this vision of the Justice League that turned out to be darker than expected.
Top: Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, and Shayne J'onzz (son of J'onn and Kendra).
Bottom: Superman, White Lantern (John Stewart), Flash (Wally West), Batman (Dick Grayson), and Wonder Woman.
It tells us something significant of the times to know that Thomas Monds was the son of a convict. When a convict (who had been transported from Britain in the early 19th century - very often as a life sentence) was released from his imprisonment, he was enititled to a "Ticket of Leave".
A Ticket of Leave was a document of parole issued to convicts who had shown they could now be trusted with some freedoms. In many cases these former convicts ended up becoming important figures in the development of Australia. One of the most famous is the former forger Francis Greenway of Old Sydney Town, who became one of the colony's finest architects under Governor Macquarie.
We don't know much about Thomas Monds senior, but we do know that his son became one of the most successful businessmen in colonial Van Dieman's Land, and that the company he built still runs to this day in Launceston. To me, that highlights a capacity for forgiveness that we rarely see even today. Most former prisoners today struggle to even get work. And what a waste this is to our society!
PHOTO NOTE: There's a lot of foliage in this shot, but in the left-hand foreground you will note some extremely healthy blackberry bushes. There are quite a few tasty blackberries amid the thorns.

Artist: E. Betts, dated 1800."
We bought this little painting at auction several years ago for $100. The artist is unknown. The more famous 20th century American watercolourist, Edward Howard Betts (1920-2008) is certainly not him. It was suggested to us it was a Scottish painting, and there is a tradition of the woman, hound and baby in Welsh folklore. No doubt it is a genuine painting from the era as no forger would bother with an unknown artist.
But its relatively naïve style suggested to me the possibility that it may in fact be part of the American folk painting tradition of the era. So perhaps it is an American painting after all.

One thing is certain, it was not painted in Australia.
if you ever find yourself in portsmouth, NH, do yourself a favor and grab a bite to eat at The Friendly Toast...and don't forger you're camera. Not only is the food tasty, but the decor will blow you away.
We got up really early for this. Went and picked the guys up, SKIPPED BREAKFAST, grabbed a quick Timmy's coffee and were on the beach at 4:30 AM ready for sun up which was at 4:50 AM. The colours weren't what I was hoping for but did have a B&W in mind for the occasion.

Not quite film location number 4 . . . yet. These signs indicate a location for next week; Ham House, our local National Trust, is going to be completely closed for 4 days next week for shooting of the feature film "Lyrebird" (LB). We chatted to location manager Jeremy DeCoursey who gave us the inside story on what it was about: the dutch WWII art forger Han van Meegeren. Exterior shots were filmed in Amsterdam over the last six weeks.
Thanks for looking.
