There's a working forge at Colvin Run Mill, where we grabbed most of today's photos. I always did like anvils. The light for this shot wasn't awesome, unfortunately.
The forge can trace its roots back to 1640, most of what remains today dates back to the 1840's when it produced wrought iron railway axles. Production ceased in the 1900's and was abandoned a few years later.
Today it is under the guardianship of the South Yorkshire Industrial History Society and the South Yorkshire Trades Historical Trust. Who have done a fine job of restoring the forge.
They also have a vast collection of machinery many of which are in working order, a great thing to see and hear.
All in all well worth the £3 entry open every Sunday from Easter. For more imformation go to www.topforge.co.uk

Valley Forge was the winter encampment of the Continental Army, under the command of George Washington, during the American Revolutionary War. The Valley Forge encampment lasted six months, from December 19, 1777, to June 19, 1778. It was the third of the eight winter encampments that Washington and the Continental Army endured during the war.
Three months prior to the encampment at Valley Forge, in September 1777, the Second Continental Congress was forced to flee the revolutionary capital of Philadelphia ahead of an imminent British attack on the city following Washington's defeat in the Battle of Brandywine, a key battle during the British Army's Philadelphia campaign. Unable to defend Philadelphia, Washington led his 12,000-man army into winter quarters at Valley Forge, located approximately 18 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
At Valley Forge, the Continental Army struggled to manage a disastrous supply crisis while simultaneously retraining and reorganizing their units in an effort to mount successful counterattacks against the British. During the encampment at Valley Forge, an estimated 1,700 to 2,000 soldiers died from disease, possibly exacerbated by malnutrition and cold, wet weather. In 1976, in recognition of the enormous historical significance of Valley Forge in American history, Valley Forge National Historical Park was established and named a national historic site, which protects and preserves nearly 3,500 acres of the original Valley Forge encampment site.

We walked around the Southern Gospel Music Association Museum. Then we ate lunch at Granny's buffet. Next we listened to Dolly Parton's relatives, Dolly's Family Reunion, play and sing at the Back Porch Theatre. We walked into and out of many shops in Craftsman Valley. We planned to see the "Wings of America" show, but bad weather caused the show to be cancelled. Then we sat by the lake watching the ducks and enjoyed a funnel cake with strawberries. Unfortunately, I lost 51 of my last pictures and won't be uploading them.
Went on an outing with Andrew Ball and Charley Clarke to the Valley Forge National Park in PA...my first time there.

Turning the blower speed up. The sparks fly. This is the first fire in my second forge. It got hot fast. I was just using store bought charcoal briquets.
