Isaiah 10:7 “But he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; for it is in his heart to extirpate and cut off nations not a few.”

2 Corinthians 4:17 “For this our light and transitory burden of suffering is achieving for us a preponderating, yes, a vastly preponderating, and eternal weight of glory.”

This is the last of these ones...

The sun's warm rays enhance the warm colors of the forest as the deep clouds move forward and soon darken the landscape beneath them.

One tree is in the last stage of life and his comrade has already fallen beside him. New growth sprouts among them fueled by the decomposition continuing the cycle of life. (Zoom in to see the wonderful wood grain in detail.)

After spending some time wandering the foggy park (see previous image on my stream), I got lucky and stumbled upon this scene just as the last fingers of fog were disappearing in the sunshine.

Revelation 13:3 “And I saw one of his heads as though it had been smitten unto death; and his death-stroke was healed: and the whole earth wondered after the beast.”

I would like to show what it is really like walking through the temperate rainforest arount Mount Taranaki. The harder I try the more I regret having started this endeavour. Usually I pick something out of the chaos and try to control the light, the background, the composition, removing distractions in the field and in post processing. Normally I avoid shooting any forest scene when the sun is out. That would have been a good start but I just shot three HDR exposures and thought I can salvage it in Lightroom. Two hours into editing the photo I realize that you cannot salvage shortcuts in the field in the computer. I already knew that. Anyway, this is a tree along the trail which has a lot of plants (epiphytes) growing on it, a typical forest scene around Mount Taranaki. New Zealand native forests appear chaotic and untidy to some but it is the most beautiful chaos I know. This is the raw, heavily processed version of it, trying to make it look as natural as my eyes could see it processing the scene effortlessly in an instant.

With the sun beating down over the cold waters of the Burrard Inlet a huge mist came up that almost covered the entire view. Barely visible were the tops of the evergreen trees in the Stanley Park Forest area. Despite it all, there were sailboats already out on the water. The mist lifted a while later and visibility was almost back to normal.

I was on my way to shoot sunset couple of days ago and I got plenty of time before the sun was going to set. I was at Hyyppää, its little mountain with amazing view to a lake. Before I started to climb up I decided to go and look one of the little ponds around Hyyppää. It was raining like a week, more or less, so the path to the pond was totally soaking in water and mud and I decided to turn and head to the top of Hyyppää, but then I saw this, amazing forestscene.

Nature can give us some amazing scenes, and this sky silhoueted against the dark evergreen trees was just so exceptional and stunning in it's colour variations. An amazing view taken from my balcony one evening. These Evergreen trees are in Stanley Park wich I can see from my balcony!

We were in the mountains after spending a long day exploring and enjoying nature. We stopped in a small campground clear off to give the kids some time for necessary relief (*ahem - otherwise known as potty break lol) The sun was setting but we were surrounded by dense forest so there wasn't too much light. As I walked through the forest edge waiting on a few stragglers I saw the way the sun was setting through the trees and it was illuminating this tiny patch of tall grass. I knew I had to get it. And the sun was setting rapidly enough I didn't have time to switch out my lens from my 85mm. What I wanted was to get the light coming through the tops of the trees but the scale between the tiny patch of grass and the tall tree tops was pretty dramatically different. The only way I could get it was turning my camera vertical and setting it on the ground. Literally a belly shot! ;) The kids loaded back into the van and I emerged from the forest dirty and smiling. My husband doesn't even ask anymore why I'm dirty, he just smiles and says "Did you get what you wanted?"

Haha!

This particular trip was one of my favorites of the Fall season. Why is it that mid fall the sunlight seems more rich, more vibrant? It's a different sunset than a summer one. Maybe it's the autumnal colors that it's shining through... I don't know, sometimes I don't care what the explanation is. I love believing it's just another magical touch of the Autumn season. :)

On another note can you believe it's November already? At last it's beginning to feel as if Autumn is really truly about to be gone...:( We had a lot of snow hit us on the 31st. It really looked like a Winter Wonderland! Currently stocking up on firewood and making plans to celebrate with most of my family for Thanksgiving. And trying to slow time down and take every day as the treasure it is regardless of seasons...

Oh, oh I almost forgot! For a Winter project I've been working on my graphic design degree online. This has taken me into a lot of fun and interesting direction. As I had many of my photographer friends asking for logos and watermarks I decided to make some up. The majority of people buying them are portrait and wedding photographers. I would love input on what would make a good design for more landscapes? More of a watermark and not a logo I guess? I'd love to expand and I would love your feedback on the link below.

Alright, my coffee is cold and other responsibilities are calling. Coming here is like talking to old friends, it's hard to stop. Thank you for always listening to me! <3

Rachel

Just love those early morning opportunities before the sunlight becomes harsh.

I expose for the highlights only (spot meter) to render the shadows dark and mysterious.

Glad we stuck around for this to develop. The fog and rising steam off the lake were pretty dense and continued well past sunrise. Was able to get some great alpenglow off Rainier at dawn -- luckily this scene developed as the sun continued to rise.
