Landscape of Lamahatta
This was one of the old photos where one of my friends visited a workshop conducted right into the forest of lamahatta pine forest. Pollution was absent and the atmosphere was eclectic.

The sound of water flowing through a quiet spot on the river, the smell of the pines and cedars, watching water bugs dart across the surface of the water, fallen leaves, the light as it filters through the trees and reflects off the surface of the river, and the deep shades where the sun never reaches--these are a few of my favorite things.

Lepchajagat is a small village in the forest at an elevation of 6,956 feet (i.e. 2123 meters) located 19 km away from Derjeeling situated on the route that connects Ghoom and Sukhiapokhari. Lepchajagat means "Lepcha tribe shelter" in the original language.

The only decent shot of this bird on my 2016 trip. It was so far away.
The great rufous woodcreeper (Xiphocolaptes major) is a species of bird in the subfamily Dendrocolaptinae of the ovenbird family Furnariidae. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay. The great rufous woodcreeper is the largest, though not the heaviest, member of its subfamily.
The great rufous woodcreeper inhabits a variety of forest landscapes including dry woodland, semi-deciduous woodland, gallery forest, and Gran Chaco woodland. It also occurs in scrubby forest, Cerredo, and wooded savanna. It favors the forest interior but occasionally occurs at its edges. In elevation it mostly occurs below 1,500 m (4,900 ft) but reaches as high as 1,800 m (5,900 ft). The great rufous woodcreeper is a year-round resident throughout its range.
The great rufous woodcreeper's diet is mostly insects, and it feeds on smaller amounts of other arthropods and small vertebrates.
The IUCN has assessed the great rufous woodcreeper as being of Least Concern. It has a large range but its population size is not known and is believed to be decreasing. It is generally considered rare to uncommon, though more common in some locations. It is thought to be only moderately sensitive to habitat loss and other forms of human disturbance. - Wikipedia
While standing along the river bank of the Merced River in the Swinging Bridge Picnic area of Yosemite National Park with a view looking to the north. My thinking in composing this image was the capture a balanced view between the reflections on the still waters of the Merced River with that of the actual mountainside with its ridges, peaks, and dried up Yosemite Falls. I went ahead and used a portrait orientation to capture more of the setting with the reflection and mountainside. That would also bring more of a focus in the captured image.
A setting looking to the north-northeast while taking in views as the Athabasca River flowed by in this part of Jasper National Park. I thought on composing the same image was two things. One was to use the river as a leading line into the image. The second was to have a leveled-on view and balance the river flowing by with the wisps of clouds in the blue skies above.
A view looking to the east-southeast while walking the Cockscomb Trail in Coconino National Forest. Nearby is the forested setting present with peaks of Capitol Butte off in the distance. My thinking in composing this image was a balanced one with the look ahead and horizon. There would be a slight sweeping view to the trees around me, but the skies above would be this wistful type setting with the cloud wisps. Not a negative space, so to speak, but rather a complement with the more rugged landscape in this part of northern Arizona.
A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across Convict Lake to nearby mountains of the Mammoth Area ranges. This is on the Lakeshore Trail in Inyo National Forest. while there was definitely quite a bit of wildfire haze and smoke present that afternoon, I attempted to best compose what was visible for an image captured with some nearby trees, the reflections off the lake waters, and then the mountains. I later worked with ClearView Plus tool before using control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 to make some adjustments and bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

A setting looking to the northwest while taking in views across eroded formations, buttes and buttes present Coconino National Forest while hiking the Devil's Bridge Trail. This was not too far from the end of the trail. I used the higher ground to capture a more sweeping view across this national forest landscape in northern Arizona.
A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across volcanic eroded pinnacle formations in Pinnacles National Park. This was while walking the Moses Spring Trail. My thought on composing this image was to zoom in with the focal length and have much of the hillside with the pinnacle formations fill the image from edge to edge. There would be a little bit of blue skies above to complement the earth-tones in the rest of the image. I also included some nearby foreground, even though it was more in shadows, but I help felt it helped to create a layered look and lead a viewer into the main portion of the image.
A setting looking to the northeast while taking in views across forested landscape to eroded outcroppings, buttes and temples present at Yavapai Vista Point in Coconino National Forest.
While waking the Fay Canyon Trail in Coconino National Forest with a view looking to the northwest to the cliffs and high ground around the Bear Mountain area. My thinking in composing this image was to use a more leveled-on view and let eyes first be drawn to the nearby trees before coming up to the peaks as they seemingly rose all around.

An image captured at Convict Lake with a view looking to the southwest with a haze overcast skies from nearby forest wildfires. It was as I began working on the image in post production that I then decided to once again try out the sky replacement setting in Photoshop with this image. The vibrant colors in the skies and clouds definitely seemed appropriate for this national forest setting. So the skies are part of the Adobe stock images in Photoshop but all else is captured with my Nikon D850 SLR camera. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.
Forests can have a cooling effect on the surrounding area through a number of processes, including:
Evapotranspiration
Trees release moisture into the air through a process called evapotranspiration, which can help keep air and surface temperatures cooler.
It is very important to plant more trees!!

A setting looking to the southeast while taking in views at the Trestle Vista Observation Site in Lincoln National Forest.
From a rise while hiking along the Devil's Bridge Trail one morning in Coconino National Forest. The view is looking to the north-northwest and using the hiking trail itself as a leading line in the lower portion of the image. From this higher point and by angling my Nikon SLR camera slightly downward, I could create a little more of a sweeping view across this north Arizona landscape. I then cropped portions of the skies above to create a more panoramic setting for the final image.
A setting looking to the southwest while taking in views across reflections on the still waters at Starkweather Lake in Inyo National Forest. There was an overcast haze in the skies from nearby forest wildfires.
I did some initial post-processing work making adjustments to contrast, brightness and saturation while playing around as I learned how to work with DxO PhotoLab 5. I then exported a TIFF image to Nik Color Efex Pro 4 where I added a Foliage and Pro Contrast filter for that last effect on the image captured.
