I can't help but stare at this

The pink polka dots and retro

that will add cheer to any gift.

We decided to include the delicious deserts because this photo is part of our food packaging collection. The gable boxes make packing food to go

easy, but you should also use FDA approved food safe tissue for a liner.

I am kind of obsessed with these gingham bags of potatoes I see everywhere!

The Goodness Of Bread Makes Feast Out Of Famine - TCF of Canada Ltd. - We’re nostalgic for the touchingly ancient concepts in this ad: “creamed eggs” “transparent cellulose film” and especially “your reputation as a hostess”. Also, it seems that in the old days unexpected guests could be served a loaf of bread and a can of beans.

"...why, I hardly even knew 'er!" said a friend one day in mock astonishment. I knew, and he knew I knew, that he'd been in a long, ongoing game of finding new "hardly even knew'er" prefixes, and that this was too good to have just been thought of, but also too good to forget.

My earliest memories of pumpernickel go way back to the great culinary event of my childhood, the catered 60th birthday of my grandfather in Bochum, Westphalia. But until my friend's outburst, it would have never occurred to me to associate the dense, dark, sweet packed kernels of grain with sex. "Tastes good with cheese", yes. "Keeps for a long time", yes. But not "Hey, do you think the kitchen table can handle the two of us?"

We had to pop to the local tesco's for some emergency organic potatoes. These tesco organic potatoes were grown in Isreal and the bag was not compostable.

I wonder what the carbon footprint was on this purchase. Feel guilty!

popped into a random thrift shop on the way to the food market last week, and found these sweet vintage boxes.

The remco science kit is unopened, but the parts inside are less fun than the packaging.

Great for a Fall themed party – use the box as part of the decorations!

Here you see Woody vigorously but effectively hammering away on his foodpackage, hanging from a blue spruce branch in our garden.

But the last bites he shoves gently into his beak, to offer to his offspring, and flies away . .

For a few years, such little black and white squares have made their appearance on a growing number of print media. Only after someone pointed them out to me and gave me the name (QR code) did I notice them around me. In Japan, they are ubiquitous, and most camera-phones can read them and instantly connect to the indicated website, in this case to look up nutrition information. Another use is to quickly get namecard data into your cameraphone. Exposed with plain sunlight through double-glazed window.

Would you believe this is my workspace...AFTER I spent a few hours organinzing and cleaning it up? Every project I do requires so many tools and stuff. I wish I just crocheted or something like that. :-) ...See next photo:

Apart from bbq meat and other wet goods, some of the food stalls outside the Kuang Si falls also sold dry snacks, like potato crisps and stuff. Now this is knock off Lays- heard of Laus? (see picture- or maybe this is 'y' in the Lao script?). I was particularly interested in the fruit crisps in other transparent polybags in the last row. There were crisps alright, but instead of potatoes, they had used fruit. Pineapple crisps, papaya crisps etc. Unfortunately, they didn't have a smaller pack so I couldn't buy a packet- the quantity would have been too much for me to finish alone otherwise. Oh, one of the few inconveniences of solo travel! (Luang Prabang, Laos/ Lao PDR, April 2014)
