Who else goes to the woods to find peace only to discover themselves in the process? I find forests unclutter the mind with each breath the trees afford me.
― Michael Poeltl
This is one from the archives. It was taken on the Oregon coast - a long walk through the forest and ended up at the beach.

I was in desperate need of some food for the soul today so off I went into the West Highlands of Scotland and into what I feel is a little bit of heaven here on earth. This image was captured in Glen Etive and shows the Falls of Etive which is where many white water rafters like to practice their skills, not for the faint hearted. The first snows of winter are now capping the tops of the mountains and the start of the skiing season can't be too far away.

I am so thankful that John Muir did too! I am so glad we have parks to go to that are protected. Thank you John Muir for going on your adventure through nature and eventually going to President Teddy Roosevelt about saving it.
I cannot take credit for this beautiful shot, this is the work of my husband. He went on a fly fishing trip to Jackson Hole with his father a couple weeks ago and as you can see - wow! So here is your little slice of heaven for today!!
You. are. welcome.

When I arriving in Shenzheng; Guandong, China the last time. it was hot & humid afternoon.
I decided to go for a walk after unloading luggages in the hotel room.
Then I went to the side lane to buy some bottled water & fruits. I found this roadside book stall on the street.
I found many books are actually translated from English language, it covers love stories, people, culture, Love, teen ages, Harry Porter; Westley, Technology, Positive Thinking...etc.
It is very impressed that the Chinese people are interested in all aspect of the English Base culture.
However, my opinions are while the West are learning the Chinese culture & language, the Chinese are blindly copying & practicing those Grey; Yellow & polluted culture & values may cause erosion to the rich good Chinese Cultures & Values of the Chinese Soul.
Can you see the hand of the seller??
The pink case on the top is from the huge umbrella.
Thank you for your view, comments & FAVE.
I appreciate it.

I've been around the world...
and I've lived in a lot of places.
But no matter where I am I miss the flavors and the smells of the food I love the most...
the taste of Chicago.
Everything's big and bold and unpretentious.
In Chicago even the 'everyman' food is respected and revered and there's standards which have been set by custom and tradition.
You don't put ketchup on a hotdog.
It's just not done.
This is a Polish from Portillo's.
It's a piece of culinary artistry and it felt so good goin' into my belly.
After that wicked good lunch I met up with Richard Cahan and Michael Williams and had them sign my new copy of 'Vivian Maier ~ Out of the Shadows'.
I can't wait to get all up into that!
Then we meandered all around the Printer's Row Book Fair.
After that we hit Dick Blick's art supply store to pick up twenty five pounds of air drying Mexican clay.
Then we stopped in at a film set where they're shooting a movie called 'Divergent' and watched that action for a while.
Someone said...
'What's the best ice cream in Chicago?'
The smart phones came out and some serious Google searching was done... even Yelp...
it was off to Margie's Candies...
they've been dishin' out the best ice cream in the city since 1921.
We laid into an ice cream feast.
After the inevitable 'sugar crash' we decided to skip hittin' the 'Old Town Art Festival' and headed home to break open that twenty five pounds of Mexican clay and make some coil pots.
It's summertime in the city and baby I was really feelin' the love all weekend long.
Nothin' but good times and smiles and feelin' good.
I hope your weekend was just the same!
A few more days and we're gonna do it all over again!
Friendships are sealed over a meal, a glass of wine and laughter! Come........share this meal with me and let us be friends!!!!!

The Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, head church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Philadelphia, is located at 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, on the east side of Logan Square in Philadelphia. It was built from 1846-1864 and was designed by Napoleon LeBrun – from original plans by the Reverend Mariano Muller and the Reverend John B. Tornatore – with the dome and Palladian facade designed by John Notman added after 1850.[2] The interior was largely decorated by Constantino Brumidi.
The cathedral is the largest Catholic church in Pennsylvania, and was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The cathedral has been the site of two papal Masses, one celebrated by Pope John Paul II in 1979, and the other by Pope Francis in 2015.
"Yeah.
The stars have come up over the Ozark Mountains.
Millions and millions of them.
The tiny sliver of an upside down moon falls to the horizon and the first fireflies of the year are
dancing their fiery dance in the branches above my head.
A chorus of coyotes seem to be making their plans for the evening and a symphony of insects or frogs accompanies them.
The woods are loud with the sound of so many things.
Distinct noises too numerous to count even though I've tried already a dozen times.
And yet the woods are silent in that way that even the noisiest of the nighttime woods can be.
Under stars I haven't been acquainted with since my youth I am left alone with my thoughts.
Thoughts that civilization somehow seems to dampen but now they are like thunder in my head.
Crisp and clear like the thunder that you hear crack right after the bolt of lightning flashes because it's close.
And the thoughts connect themselves so naturally to the rhythm of the crickets song.
I feel like I'm a part of one giant living thing.
One part of what is all life in a vast and infinite universe.
The woods are my oasis.
Like some dromedary animal after weeks and weeks of walking across a barren and parched wasteland all of the sudden coming upon a pool of clean fresh water...
My soul drinks it all in.
It drinks in every sight and every sound and every smell and searches for every texture and sensation as if this oasis would be the last.
My soul is nourished in ways I can so clearly feel but may never understand.
The song of the crickets is my lullabye...
The most gracious reward for a journey long and the effort of more than six hundred miles.
And my soul sings a song whose lyrics I can never recall having sung.
I fall asleep mesmerized by the midnight orchestra that surrounds me and I feel like I'm a part of a greater whole.
Goodnight universe.
I am grateful for this moment."

that star fell
in my lap
and I jumped
from fright
it burned my skin
freckling my thighs
and my rounding belly
forever to remind me
that I wished
for, but didn’t really
want it, and seeking out
what others have
does not bring
happiness
that is found
by looking inward
finding the broken parts
and reassembling them into
a new, more content you
who smiles big
and laughs
with joy

food for the soul on a cold january day in mexico (((:
lentils with some veggies i found in the fridge, imported german saussages and fresh herbs from my roof garden.
...toward comfort food that's a little more healthy, like meat, pasta and potatoes. Women choose things like chips, cookies, chocolate and cake." Brian Wansink
I have no idea from what context the quote originated but I found it simply because it contained the word, 'pasta'.
I thought this cute little pasta just needed to be photographed prior to cooking some the other night. This little bow tie pasta looks like it has formed a pucker for kissing...don't you think? Or has this Valentine's theme just gone to my head?
Each day this week there will be a different image to carry the theme!
I haven't made bread in quite awhile, but yesterday I made an effort to do so. You're suppose to have 2 round loaves, but since we went to Temple where there were two loaves, I think that we are covered being that there is just my husband and I. Now, I'm getting into the baking mood again. :-) Gosh darn, forgot to mention that the 9th is also my birthday!
CHALLAH - BREAD MACHINE METHOD
3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon water
1 egg
2 tablespoons margarine or butter softened
3 1/4 cups of Gold Medal Better for Bread Flour or King Arthur Bread Flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 1/2 teaspoons bread machine yeast
For the glaze to baste on the bread before putting in the oven; use 1 egg yolk and 2 tablespoons cold water. Mix that together and brush on all over the loaf before placing into the oven.
I have an older Zojirushi bread machine and I add the water first. Then I add all the other ingredients to the water. After that's done, I add flour and make a well for the yeast. I put it on Dough Cycle, adding raisins when the machine beeps by following the machine instructions. When the machine Dough Cycle is done, the beeps will sound and I take out the dough from the baking pan. Cover and let rest 10 minutes on a lightly covered flour surface or in a bowl. Grease large cookie sheet. Divide dough into thirds. Roll each third into 13" ropes and gently braid the ropes on the cookie sheet. Pinch the ends to seal and tuck the ends under the braid. Cover and let rise in warm place about 45 minutes or until double. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Mix an egg yoke and 2 tbsp.cold water and brush over loaf. Bake about 25 minutes or until golden brown.

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
MEDITATION
“…Jesus assures us that we will not collapse amid storms if we have set ourselves solidly on the rock of His Love and Mercy. So when these storms of life threaten to overtake you, try to regain your footing. Allow the Lord to remind you that you have built your foundation on Him, your rock and safety. He is full of Mercy and Compassion; He knows full well your situation. So turn to Him, and feel the stable ground of His Love beneath your feet.”
PRAYER
“Lord Jesus, You are the rock of my salvation! Help me to cling to You in every storm.”

We were riding the train and she asked me about my camera.
'Time for your closeup' I said.
It's going to be a beautiful day.
You're gonna feel it.
Sunshine... sweet breeze... blue skies and love.
I think you're gonna do alright with that today.
Your smile says it all.
Love and light.
