It was a Saturday morning and the area was empty, five minutes later came a woman with a dog. That's all...

Testing Fomapan R 100 Push 3 reversal in a building frozen in time: Latvijas universitātes Polimēru mehānikas institūts where I source my chems at enola.lv

R100... I find it lacks sharpness and resolving power - something quite critical in projection...

Hunted down box speed reversal time: it nicely reflected what the updated Foma Reversal Set now tells to do - found ouf post-factum where the new recipe too addresses two of the issues I've enountered with R 100: 1) overbleaching; 2) overdevelopment.

With this test I arrived at a dev time/hypo concentration to develop my R 100 at box speed. Pretty much guessed it right away, and later checking the updated Foma Reversal Kit times, they pretty much think alike : D

A small YouTube channel mentioned that Fomapan R 100 has a slight Infrared sensitivity. Looking up the datasheet we can see curve crossing 700nm line, therefore some sensitivity could be there and I just had to test it out myself. And what can I say - with +8 exposure you can get these results!

The sweet spot with Heliopan RG715 filter seems to be somewhere between +8 and +10 from normal metering. Now to wait for summer to test out Wood effect response.

Looks like 2 minute agitation interval minutes (to deal with Push 3 contrast) gives Bromide drag - will increase frequency to mitigate this - 3 inversions every 90 seconds should do fine.

Rated this shot a stop faster and it arrived a stop more underexposed; with a dramatic look. Underexposed for sure, but for a purpose.

With this test (darker, as expected) I arrived at a dev time/hypo concentration to develop my R 100 at box speed. Pretty much guessed it right away, and later checking the updated Foma Reversal Kit times, they pretty much think alike : D

Can you see that clear line, running across the powerline? That's how you know you should add some hypo to remove "the highlight fog". Less is more, test in 0,2g increments at 500ml working developer solution. Note that by adding more hypo you increse the activity of the developer, therefore larger quantities migth require less time in developer. This is also key for pushing slides.

Seeing that Fomapan R 100 can handle some latitude ("dynamic range"), I tried to push it for 2 stops - I'll need some speed to survive this drab winter.

So, here's what I did:

- Rated my Fomapan R 100 as ASA 400, set my camera accordingly;

- Camera on tripod;

- Metered a snowy scene with my OM-1n (center-weighed average) and added a stop to compensate for snow.

Got f/8 and 1/60 for EV0 exposure, took a shot, then 1/30 to test for Push 1. Completed my roll with 0's and +1's and later realized I should've done 0 +1 -1 -2 instead....

Then I cut my film in 3 strips to test 3 development iterations - 85ml PQ + 415ml H2O + 0,5g hypo and:

A. 20min in 1st developer, 3 agitations every 90s

B. 16min in 1st developer

C. 14min

Completed the reversal as normal, bleaching with 1/3 dilute permanganate bleach as always

Strip A was way overdone, B - too close to believe it, but C - a tad too undercooked, but could be good +1 time/hypo combination!

Scanned all frames the same for comparison.

Cyrillic: Read - gay

Abandoned marketplace in Olaine - quite rough and russian-speaking city in Latvia due to its industrial / pharmaceutical history and russification attempts of Latvia, subsequent import of Russian workforce to do so. Built around 50's-60's during occupation as an industrial town to house factory workers. Now Olainfarm operates from there.

It's sooo telling when so many russian graffiti's revolve around homo, whilst Russia and russians themselves are sporting such an anti-gay stance, laws even. And t.A.T.u. being top Russian music export for a while? Closeted much?

Questions, questions...
