As it was such a grey day and the sun had gone down, this photo was a bit dark! I loved the way the ducks were waddling towards me so I added a texture to soften it a bit.

Life's a long, long road, if we are lucky. For so long I've just followed the road, it seems with one wheel stuck in a rut at the side steering me along without me being in control. And it has gone on and on. There's a crossroads further down in the picture, in the middle of nowhere. No signs. No landmarks. Just an empty crossroads where two roads meet on the barren moorland. I'm getting near there. Do I carry on straight or turn, left or right, and explore a bit to the side...perhaps it was a waste of time, the wrong choice....nothing to see down there, and return to the junction.
I'm almost at that point, decisions, decisions in deciding if I leave so much of what I've known, work, Cheshire and the hills around, friends, goats, North Wales and take a change in direction.
We've found a place. A long way north. Seven hours drive north to Acharacle, Argyllshire at the far end of Loch Shiel. Mountains, lochs, deer, little beaches with white sand, heather...........
I've seen recently how hard it is to leave everything you've known and strike out somewhere else when my son took his young family off to New Zealand. They'd said they never could have anticipated how difficult it would be to say "Goodbye". My turn soon.

Watch out!! Can you find the bear in this photo???
I didn't know I captured one until Flickr Autotag told me so :-D
As a follow-up to my post of yesterday. the situation in this photo is very similar to that image. A moose cow was bedded down off to the right of this image and this bull was very close by. Only this time I happened to be at a very close distance. This is full frame - no crop. Now a bull moose is rather large, so filling the frame means a good 25 yards or more away, which is considered a safe distance from an animal such as this. However, it was during rut, which means they can be unpredictable. Luckily there was a small creek between us and I was constantly watching him with my escape route already planned. He was not bothered by my presence (and a few other photographers) and if anything he moved closer to the cow which meant closer to me. I kept wishing he would raise his head, but wild animals seldom comply with our subliminal suggestions. Shortly after this shot he bedded down for the day as well.

This is one of those "accidental" shots but I thought the colours were lovely .... hope you have a bright and cheery day :)
The Wind Waves [Olas de Viento] sculpture was part of the biennale exhibit, 2009 - 2011. As the sculpture's title says, it represents the motion of both wind and waves--and appropriate sculpture for Garry Point Park in Steveston, B.C. being on the mouth of the Fraser River where winds from the ocean make it one of the best places in the Fraser Valley to fly kites. Kids (including grown up ones) loved to climb it, and it provided a fabulous vantage point from the inside to frame photos of the park, sunsets, and boats passing by.
In the background you can make out the cranes of Deltaport's coal terminal in Tsawwassen B.C. & the mountain on one of Washington State's San Juan islands.
I likely took this near sunset given the golden glow on the sculpture.
"Much of the work of Mexican sculptor Yvonne Domenge references nature, architecture and a fascination with geometry. In this intense red circular sculpture, installed as part of the 2009-2011 Vancouver Biennale exhibition, Domenge provides us with an elegant decorative form full of seamless curves and movement. The circular form is rhythmic and undulating, creating the sense of a waving motion within a contained form."

It is now in Houston, TX's Herman Park. (Sadly, the City of Richmond, B.C. felt it couldn't afford to buy it to remain at Garry Point.)
