I don't think the manufacturers of Pee Chee folders would have ever imagined that their folders would be so iconic of '70s and '80s youth culture and rebellion, simply because the balance of negative space and the sporty illustration lent itself as the perfect blank canvas for bored, cynical and mischievous school kids.
I keep track of my projects and assignments for school using clear folders. I stick color-coded 3x5 cards in the front of the folders to label them, so they're all reusable.
It might look like overkill, but its actually pretty compact when its all put together. And it keeps me from carting around old papers I don't need anymore, as well as from having to constantly reprint things I've lost.

If there were *any* two words that defined the attitude of '70s and '80s kids, it was just that: "School Sucks." Now THIS is what I remember Pee Chee folders looking like. Totally thrashed and drawn all over. Courtesy of Scott F. Davis.
In the '70s, a very common way to spice up the tennis player on the Pee Chee folder was to add a huge afro (bonus points for the afro pick comb), place polka dots on her sport shorts and make her have hairy legs. The tennis racket, depending on the age, maturity and/or mindset of the individual, could be transformed into nearly anything, from a frying pan (as seen here, complete with eggs and bacon) to a guitar or deadly weapon. The possibilities were endless.

There is something about the Dead of Winter where the earth seems to quiet itself...everything is still, the only sound was the ice creaking beneath, the waves lapping....thickening as I stood. The Sun crept out for only a few moments illuminating the pier before it disappeared and evening settled in. I look forward to this journey of silence, of moments that make one gasp.
