Used to be foe but now they are becoming friends. My cat Billie (tabby) with visitor Bob in our garden this morning.

There was a time that would have been the question? St.John's, NL, Canada.

(...don't know if it's a damaging wheat-bug... it looks so friendly...)

This resident oriental pied hornbill was eyeing the newly furbished nest of the crested goshawk while his flock was nearby till the other eagle flew back...My first witness of such wildlife behaviour ..

Snowy Egret seems to be asking his image "friend or foe?"

……I imagine not many Foe came a knocking on this castle door!! Beeston Castle in Cheshire (English Heritage), the bridge that falls away steeply is across a deep ravine - I expect a few came to an untimely end in there!! I thought this section of the castle would look well in mono.…. Alan:-)

This marmot was not sure when I returned to this spot below Lake Marie in Wyoming. I originally saw several of them there in this rock pile while taking sunrise landscapes. Hiked back a little later with the long lens and saw this one that was still not sure whether I was friend or foe. Liked this initial capture of the marmot there on the rocks among the pretty flowers. Around elevation 10,500 feet.

Will follow with one of the last images taken of this cute critter after it scrambled off and watched me for a while from a high distant point ... but eventually after staying still it returned to its feeding grounds and ended up getting quite close to me.

It was also great returning to this park in late July ... last summer in 2019 in late June, this whole area was still under several feet of snow.

Forest flora is not all benign: on the left is stinging nettle (definitely want to avoid contact), front right is bleeding heart (toxic if ingested), but the moss is mostly benevolent. :-) The leaf litter and bark feeds them all.

Project 365-087

Found this beautiful mule deer foraging in the snow for bits to eat. As I was photographing it initially, it stopped and looked up to investigate the situation ... was I friend or foe? I guess I reassured it that no harm was intended and it quickly went back to the task at hand ... eating for survival through the harsh winter. So happy when I can photograph wildlife out in their natural habitat, acting they was that they should naturally, without interference.

Thanks for stopping by to view. Happy Monday!

Time will tell like it always does...

I was literally a football field (or more) away from a bald eagle and a turkey vulture (in not the best light) as they were vying for territory. I used my 600 prime with a 1.4tc and shot in crop mode and then I cropped a lot in Lightroom lol. I'm surprised it came out as good as it did!

We came to wreck everything and ruin your life, God sent us.

This very curious beaver was swimming past us and having a good look assessing whether we were friend or foe.

Perfect for the Halloween season, but as a fan of all trees, I just couldn't call it scary..... I leave the decision to you.

This is a Mk Vc machine dating from 1942.

The pilot is clearly visible through the windscreen.

If you look very carefully indeed, you can just make out two wires, running between the tips of each tail wing to the body of the aircraft. These were used to transmit a radio signal that made friendly aircraft appear larger on the very early radar screens then in use to detect enemy aircraft.

The yellow stripes on the wing leading edges were added to help differentiate friend from foe when the aircraft was seen from head on, as here.

This Spitfire Mk Vc, AR501, is owned and operated by The Shuttleworrth Collection and based at Old Warden aerodrome.

It is truly amazing how beautiful mosquitoes are...during the tropical summer we have just endured, they have been more numerous and voracious than normal. To say the very least, they have been an unpleasant nuisance!

In a blink, the eye sends data to the brain. Is this a friend, a foe, something to eat, or something to ignore.... or something to play with?

So here's a fun tidbit. Some critters have oil droplets as part of their vision light filtration system.

"Bird eyes have a rich set of photoreceptor cells, consisting of rods, double cones and single cones, which endows birds with visual capacities far beyond that of humans. The four classes of cone photoreceptor cells (stay awake, OK?) mediate a tetrachromatic colour vision system covering a wide range of wavelengths, from the ultraviolet to the red. Each of the four participating cone photoreceptor classes has a different visual pigment, and in addition,

each contains a small

optical device,

the so-called oil droplet. "

I'll seek you out

Flay you alive

One more word and you won't survive

And I'm not scared of your stolen power

I see right through you any hour

I won't soothe your pain

I won't ease your strain

You'll be waiting in vain

I got nothing for you to gain

I'm taking it slow

Feeding my flame

Shuffling the cards of your game

And just in time

In the right place

Suddenly I will play my ace

I won't soothe your pain

I won't ease your strain

You'll be waiting in vain

I got nothing for you to gain

Eyes on fire

Your spine is ablaze

Felling any foe with my gaze

And just in time

In the right place

Steadily emerging with grace

The one foe which earth’s cats fear; the very large and peculiar cats from Saturn, for some reason not oblivious of the charm of our moon’s dark side.

I've begun to realize

That whenever I am with you

You deliver me from the pain in my life

Easy now to recognize

All the misery I have been through

It was beating me to submission

'Til the day you arrived

Certainly, I felt alive

Strength I had lost was revived

I'm mending inside and we both know why

'Cause you're mine

I knew I could be whole if you were mine

I'll vanquish any foe because you're mine

Been betrayed too many times

Didn't think I would ever recover

That it'd haunt me for the rest of my life

Then you opened up my eyes

And you helped me rediscover

With what you resurrected

A man who had died

Your power regave me new life

Made me reborn and refined

Rebuilt from inside and we both know why

'Cause you're mine

I knew I could be whole if you were mine

I'll vanquish any foe because you're mine

I never thought I would ever escape

At times, I wanted to die

Feared that it all was just a little too late

For then, I wouldn't survive

I let you in and let go of the hate

My heart recovered now, I

Owe you a debt that I can never repay

I still believe 'cause you're mine

I'm burning inside and we both know why

'Cause you're mine

I knew I could be whole if you were mine

I'll vanquish any foe because you're mine

I can regain control because you're mine

I can take over the world because you're mine
