A Common Cader Bumblebee pierces an unopened Common Toadflax flower to get to the nectar inside

After emerging from it's cocoon, this male io moth spent the day drying it's wings a the tip of a crape myrtle stem. After a full day of getting the opportunity to photograph this beautiful moth, it flew off just after sunset.

 

The first sunny day in about a week brings a butterfly to the garden. Just resting on this unopened mexican petunia (Ruellia).

Only a short visit and it was off.

Flitting about just above the waters surface in search of a female while seeing off other eager competitors.

These two Small Tortoiseshell butterflies followed one another from flower to flower for quite some time.

Sometimes Spring comes "later" than usual, but this year with a lot of rain, Spring came roaring in.

 

The tree blossoms were beautiful in Sterling Heights, and attracted this small visitor.

Great Southern White (Ascia monuste)

Pyrgus malvae or Grizzled Skipper butterfly

An immaculate Callophyrys rubi or Green Hairstreak butterfly. My 1st for the year 2023

A very lucky find as these butterflies are sadly becoming quite a rarity in the UK.
