Today we went to the Park Cameras Imaging Festival at Burgess Hill. I'd booked us into Gavin Hoey's Garden Macro lecture, and I was expecting it to be about flowers. But, nope, it was all about getting close to bugs.

I had no intention of buying anything ... but ... somehow the Olympus 75mm f1.8 came home with me :)) It would have been daft not to buy it, as it was a saving of £350 off the regular price, and I got another free camera bag.

After Park Cameras, we went to Nymans for lunch and a wander, and I had fun trying to capture a flying bee ... this was my best effort, which gives plenty of room for improvement.

This common tern was flying by and fishing close to me so I got this nice image.

This building downtown looked like the wing of a plane slicing through the sky.

Barred Owl flying low over the field. This Owl appears to have an injured right eye but having seen it successfully catch voles it seems fine. Last year we took photos in our area of an owl with the right eye closed so I suspect it may be the same owl.

Thank you for viewing

They're flying at dazzling speed, these little owls..

This snap was clicked in Sikkim.. Pelling actually.. Tibetan prayer flags.. You'll find them all over Sikkim.. They surround their houses by these flags to protect them from any harm and evil.

I'm not sure what sort of birds these are, but there are a lot of them on the Somerset Levels.

Flying squirrels are close cousins of tree squirrels. They don't actually fly, but rather glide between trees using a furry membrane that stretches from wrist to ankle. You can see the membrane folded on the side of the body here. The image may seem almost natural, but a closer look at the eye makes it clear that it is indoors. Taken at a small animal exhibit at the NECCC conference. New England Council of Camera Clubs used to hold a great annual conference series in Amherst with spectacular presentations, model shoots, and setups. Sadly, it is no more.

Volcanic plumes of smoke blast from the Flying Scotsman as it erupts from Grosmont tunnel on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

As the sun sets, it cast a golden glow on the flying gull and its surrounding grass marshes at Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge.

Gulls are typing medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They type have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet.

Gulls are typically coastal or inland species rarely venturing far out to sea, except for the Kittiwakes.

During New Zealand's lockdown (which was today extended to the night of the 27th - a sensible move), a strict interpretation of the rules suggests we are allowed to leave our house for supermarket visits and for local exercise.

Fortunately, I can see trains leaving Pukeuri and shuffle about in the yard from the house and also listen to them on a scanner. So if the sun isn't in quarantine, it's fairly easy to time a 10 minute walk down the hill to see them departing without any obvious loitering.

It also seems foolish during these difficult times not to pass up the opportunity to get a few shots with the flying camera that might be less doable if there were more people around...

I had a bit of target practice on Redwings and Fieldfares that were visiting a berry laden Holly tree near my house. I managed half decent shots of both species so here's a flying Fieldfare to start with. A Mistle Thrush had been jealously guarding this Holly tree but was no match for a gang of fifty Fieldfares and Redwings. The tree has been almost stripped bare over the past three days.

Geese were flying everywhere and the moon was out in the afternoon, but as much as I tried to get the geese and moon to line up well in a single shot, I wasn't able to get the shot I wanted. I ended up blending two photos from today into this composite.

Gulls, or colloquially seagulls, are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns (family Sternidae) and only distantly related to auks, skimmers and even more distantly to waders.

Gulls are typically medium to large birds, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically, particularly the Larus species. Live food often includes crustaceans, molluscs, fish and small birds.

台灣珍貴稀有特有種保育類 (Endemic Birds of Taiwan).

Red Kite with full wingspan. Very bleak overcast day unfortunately.

I've long admired thistle plants and was stunned to find this iridescent flying insect atop the pink flower blossom. What a colorful treat!
