(Texto Wikipedia)

In this set I wanted to show the difference between some of the Flytrap varieties. Some are more tall and erect, while others like the 'Big Mouth' are quite prostrate and to the ground.

My Venus Flytrap

(haiku by me... ode of sorts to an ex girlfriend. hahah)

I saw a Venus flytrap! I saw a Venus flytrap! They grow naturally in only a 90 mile radius from Wilmington NC. Spent a good hour searching the forest floor for this tiny plant, about the size of a quarter. Spotted one, and even though rain was beginning to fall, HAD to get a few hurried photos. What an amazing treat!

Each leaf can only close two or three times, so a fly must hit two or more of the hairs along the mouth of the leaf to close it.

According to Dr. Tom Miller, these non-native Venus flytraps were planted in Liberty County bogs, possibly looking to make a profit in selling them.

The Venus Flytrap, Dionaea, uses modified leaves to trap and digest insects and other small creatures in the flytrap's nutrient-poor environment. Four trigger hairs in the reddish maw of these leaves trigger the rapid leaf closing when disturbed.
