with the mahogany i did not finish it at all only used a sealer from behlin and a slight semi sheen gloss spray to bring out the rusty reflective tones.
and i should mention i broke two bits cutting this... the one side cut perfectly after i flipped it to cut the back side every time it went from material to air to material it would break. Had to slow the machine down on that side.
The finished panels displayed at the show milled out of pink insulation foam . still un happy with my display method for now..
The monstrous ripples are on the upper bar. The lower bar has no ripples---perhaps it was formed by scouring of the bar after the ripples were formed.

The driftwood is about three feet (0.9m) long.
Seen at Nehalem Bay State Park in Oregon. The Pacific Ocean is about 300 feet (90m) to the left.
