Common Buckeye butterfly goes for a deep sip of nectar as it pokes down into a Lantana flowerhead.
Considered an uncommon migrant into the area from the south. Abundance varies from year to year.
I cannot take any of the credit for the composition of this image. The Thistle seeds were wafted by the breeze and then captured in flight by a Small Scabious flowerhead to form natures very own artistic composition. I've just removed the background!
Can be variable in colour from whitish-green, to bright yellow depending on the the spiders habitat in matching the colour of the flower its on. An ambush hunter and will sit and wait for its prey. Can be found on flower heads, among grass, scrub, woodland edges and gardens. Around 27 species of crab spiders in the UK and named after spiders crab like appearance.
Colorful American Copper butterfly tightly gripping a Sedge flowerhead during a stiff breeze.
Common and abundant.
Thanks for stopping by in my gallery. I’m very pleased and really appreciate each and every view of my photo, comments, invitations and awards.
Can often be seen growing with Hogweed but differs in having round pink-to brown-tinged flowerheads with a green to purplish stem, a great attractive plant for pollinating insects. We tend to take for granted what pollinating insects do for us yet we have lost so much of our wild flower meadows in the UK and around the world there's the destruction of the rain forests and huge volumes of pesticides and herbicides (including the dreaded Roundup) being used that is taking its toll on the insect world. 75% of the food we eat is on our plates because of what pollinators do, will we ever learn. And for a bit of banter my Victoria Sponge cake could even become extinct in the near future.
One or two Black Swallowtails have been in my yard each day for a few weeks This one remained perched atop the dry flower head of a Beebalm in my native species garden.
Thank you all for your favs, comments and views, your generous support is always appreciated, have a great weekend.

A different POV of a Banksia flower taken from the end of the flower head at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens.
If you look closely you can see the styles breaking out of the perianth of each flower. The end of the style carries the stigma and the bud shaped tip will split to become the anthers.
Best viewed enlarged for the details.
There are 173 Banksia species, and all but one occur naturally only in Australia.
Banksias were named after Sir Joseph Banks (1743-1820 ), who, in 1770, was the first European to collect specimens of these plants.
The flower heads are made up of hundreds (sometimes thousands) of tiny individual flowers grouped together in pairs.
The colour of the flower heads usually ranges from yellow to red. Many species flower over autumn and winter.
Many thanks for your visit, comments, invites and faves..it is always appreciated.

My new Daphne shrub came with these lovely flowers and with gorgeous scent.

Heavily branched, loaded with buds, vigorous growth. I love the fuzzy beards and the dynamic creamy veining. Fall petals are so ruffled, it is easy to glimpse the silvery mauve undersides of the deep purple falls. Standards are well formed and perfectly upright in pure white with peachy tones at the base.
