Day 3 of Hawaii vacation. This is the view from our lanai. From this direction the view is of an old lava flow with a bit of the resort grounds. Quite a contrast to the view to the ocean.
Captured on a walk with the family. Apart from a simple crop, this is SOOC :)

Part of the obsidian flow area of Newberry national volcanic monument. The obsidian flow area (a vast mound of black obsidian glass and other volcanic rock) along with Paulina lake and East lake are located about a half an hours drive (if I remember correctly) from Lava Butte.
The obsidian flow is roughly about 1300 years old and covers roughly 700 acres. The obsidian flow area is part of the Newberry national volcanic monument, which covers a total area of about 55500 acres and is managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
