The fruit bearing clusters of palm trees are called drupes. This is a close-up of one cluster of drupes from a Pygmy Date Palm from my yard. (I also have another variety of palm that produces huge drupes of orange, fiberous fruit, each drupe cluster weighing about 20 pounds or 9 kilos.)

The drupes emerge from a protective pod (also pictured) that hardens into wood after opening. The little balls on the stalks are flower buds which will turn into tiny yellow flower clusters before going to seed.

Looking close....on Friday!:-)

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !

Today is a blue day at Color my World Daily but once again I’m skipping it this week since we have a very cool theme at Looking close on Friday: Flora on Black Background.

This one was rather difficult for me, for several reasons… As we all know by now, any theme involving « flora » is a challenge… A challenge to stay away from my neighbor’s plants (since they are truly so much better than mine !!) and to find a subject to photograph. Also, I have to adjust to my new schedule with kids at school… And the last reason (and the most time consuming one) for this « difficult » picture taking process: I have a new challenge on my Apple Watch…For September I have to burn a total of 45 400 calories … People, you have no idea how much cardio I have to do in one day just to achieve this challenge and get my September badge … but since I have a very addictive personality: I will get that badge even if I have to run during the night lol So with all that going on, I have less time for photography…

As you can see in my picture, I found the perfect plant: an egg grapevine !! FYI: the grapevine comes from my backyard and the egg from my fridge !! We can state with certainty that no egg or grapevine was stolen for this picture !!

Mucho, mucho amor for you all !! And see you soon !!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!!

FLora on black background for the Looking close on Friday group. Have a great day folks. I always think these beautiful flowers hanging look like dancers! ;0)

After a difficult start (too many late Spring frosts) our blue 'mophead' hydrangeas are finally blossoming. They all start like this, with a small cluster of pale blue and yellow petals. Then as they grow they turn fully blue and bigger!

Hoping that you have a restful and relaxing weekend

Another one from the Iceland poppy (papaver nudicaule / Islandmohn) that I saved from the slugs. Now it shines in a flower pot on the terrace😄 Have a happy Friday 🌞 HLCoF!
