Although this photo must have been posted several times already, I wanted to post it in my photostream as my first 2022 photo.

Monique my wife and I made our first bird outing after my shoulder operation on the 1st of February 2022. Since we were at my brother Daniel's for a few days and we couldn't see our grandchildren as well as our daughter, because the COVID had invited itself into their home. We had a day off between our medical appointments and the weather was great. So we agreed to go for a hike at Pointe Yamachiche Park which is only 30 minutes from my brother's place. When we arrived, I noticed that there seemed to be several people there already, because there were a lot of cars parked on the side of the road. Equipped with our crampons under our boots Monique and me, we slowly headed down the trail. It wasn't long before we saw a group of photographers all pointing in the same direction. When I got closer, I clearly saw that they were watching a magnificent Great Gray Owl which was taking its sunbath without worrying about these curious bipeds which chattered incessantly in front of it. For Monique, it was a Lifer and for me a great joy to find myself in front of this superb lady from the far north. She didn't flinch an inch during the few hours I stayed there and met several Flickr friends from the Quebec region who were there. Very nice meetings and exchanges after 2 years of hermitage in my part of the country. But to our delight she still made a few stretches and grimaces. Monique and I left very early in the afternoon, because my shoulder could no longer support my camera... Very nice outing and encounters of all kinds...

Well, Well what do we have here?

The big stare-down again?

OK, who's going to flinch first?

Buddy I can see the mini-sandwich treats you put out for me so go back inside the house and let me get them.

You know what happens next?

My little buddy is now on the deck enjoying his treats!

It was open and closing

And hopelessly hoping for sure

We were here, we were ghosting

Both of us coasting on "Just give a little more"

It was all out my hands when you pulled the trigger

And I kissed your friends 'cause your friend said you kissed her

And I didn't flinch, and the lights didn't flicker and I

I fell apart

You were my best nights and worst fights

And couldn't care less

You were my gold rush to cold touch

Favourite ex

And all of the others cancel out each other

And it's always you left

You were my no sleep, cried for weeks

Favourite ex

It was stabs in the back

And the nice things you said when you were wasted

I was looking for something

And changing the one thing you hated...

A young RSH sits comfortably roadside during the afterglow of sunset in the shade. I walked up to this one as he didn't flinch at my cautious approach.

"Let me tell you something ..

Goodness in man does not die when he does evil..no.

Everyone kills the one they love, listen carefully to what I say...

Someone with a bitter look,

someone with a flattering word.

Coward with a kiss,

brave with a sword.

Someone kills a loved one when they are young,

someone when they are old.

Someone strangles him with hands of desire,

someone with hands of gold...

merciful kills with a knife,

because the dead body cools down quickly.

Someone loves too little,

someone too much,

someone buys

and someone sells.

Someone sheds a tear while killing,

and someone doesn't flinch...

Because everyone kills the one they love,

but it doesn't kill everyone. "

There were some lovely waves hitting the large rock formations as the tide came in at Whitburn

I watched as these two birds

barely flinched as the spray came to the top

A slightly slower shutter speed enabled me to capture the motion.

Night herons are quite interesting to watch in their pursuit of food. Like some other herons, I've seen them stand in a "poised to kill" position for quite a long time without flinching. This juvi was a bit more active, flying from spot to spot in the search for fish and invertebrates. Taken in a fine but heavy rain while visiting Hawaii. 4000 ISO.

on the side of a hill just out from a wooded area, this fox found a meal and a half probably for kits back at a den. I was caught unawares that the fox was anywhere nearby as I was watching a spotted fawn and mom down on the meadow below. The fox must have known I was there as I snapped a few images ...and I was so relieved to be using the 5DSR which makes almost no sound - but she did not flinch at all and went on with the business of securing the squirrel in her jaws before moving along. Always a sobering moment to see a life taken in nature

Thank you for your visits and comments

After sitting for a good minute on this snag, I decided to approach slowly up to this fella and he did not flinch and just looked to the left, right, and stared at me like i'm not afraid of you! Love it when they just relax still for you :) Click for expanded view.

This poor soul is clearly ill; did not move nor flinch during the time I was there.

Deserving of our admiration!

Rage and tell me then

Not every tale is a gift

When anguish gives the knife

One more twist

And blood is thinned by tears

Cry out the injustice

Not every tale is a gift

In a world harsh with strife

Leaving us bereft

Deeds paling through the years

And I will meet your eye

Neither flinching nor shy

As I fold death inside life

And face you down

With a host of mortal fears

And I will say then

Every tale is a gift

And the scars borne by us both

Are easily missed

In the distance between us

Nearly didn’t take on this challenge as it breaks the grid in my photostream!

Little side story to this shot. The frame for this composition is a compartment in a letterpress drawer that is usually slotted in a dusty corner of our porch. I set up the shot (in low-light naturally) and arranged the watch parts and cogs in one of the wider compartments composing in the viewfinder. Only to flinch two seconds later as a massive (giant in macro) spider hauled itself onto the watch from the adjoining, dark compartment. Raised my heart rate a few beats!

So I guess you can tell by the title what I was listening to while editing, the one with the yellowy eyes is part of the song London Calling by The Clash, and it just seemed fitting at the time. This Great Blue Heron and I have struck up a sort of friendship, I can photograph him at close range without him flying off or flinching, as most herons are very skittish and flighty around humans. And yes I do talk to him.

Three miles North of Cannon Beach is Ecola State Park in Oregon. It was my hope to catch a sunset and a long exposure from this viewpoint. Near the end of the evening the light finally lit up one of the many clouds hanging above the small coastal town in the distance. The cool winds can bring a chill but I'm glad I didn't flinch and give up on the light.

"Captain William Clark and 12 members of the Corps of Discovery traveled through what is now the park in 1806 in search of a beached whale near present-day Cannon Beach. After scaling the north slope of Tillamook Head and reaching one of its viewpoints, Clarke described the vista as “… the grandest and most pleasing prospects which my eyes ever surveyed…”

Yes, there is a leaf on Cleo's head and no, I didn't place it there. She was lying in the grass and I was taking some photos of her when suddenly a leaf fell down from an apple tree and landed right on Cleo. This would have startled most cats and then they would have shaken the leaf off. Not Cleo. She didn't even flinch and instead simply continued with the photoshoot as if nothing had happened. That's coolness for you ! :)

Have a nice day ahead!! 😃

Never flinched in the pouring rain !

Thank You very much for the looks and comment !

When I saw the report that the Leucistic Bald Eagle made an appearance in the morning I knew I had to take my chances at this super rare raptor. I left at 4a.m. and drove two hours South. I had to wait for the sun to rise, but found him immediately crunching bones from a fish he was holding down on the mudflats. Shortly after he perched just above us next to the walking trail. Still no light but extremely close. He was very calm as he did not flinch when a jogger came by. He flew to this Eucalyptus several times and perched calmly for several minutes. The light was starting to filter through the leaves in the background as this majestic beauty posed for us. It was a very awe inspiring experience I will never forget. We had a solid two hours to photograph him that morning. He eventually flew off into the distance and we were admiring and reflecting on this one of a kind beauty.

Take care and stay safe 😊

After two previous unsuccessful attempts at getting this lifer I finally nailed this Northbay superstar! I spent two days photographing this fella. We got killer looks and close ups. He ate berries and grass seeds in front of us and didn't flinch! It was an awesome treat. Image was not cropped :)

Still grab a photo or as in this case two. A stitch of two pics taken between Long Rock and Marazion and looking towards Penzance. Those clouds didn't spill a drop off rain, just passed over...

I have a big apology to make here but much as I am thankful for all your lovely comments on my poppy shot I shall be removing it from my photo stream. I never liked it as much as other poppy shots but was won over by the the sweet little girl and her mum but once I saw it on my iPad, although it was not oversaturated just the beautiful bright day it was - I am not happy with it and the border is too big and it just offends my eye every time I open my iPad. I may alter the border first and do a swap to see if that helps but it’s causing me to flinch all the time lol….

We can all make mistakes after all. In the case of this two shot Pano I actually had the sweep of the whole right hand curve of the beach but could simply not get it too align in photoshop as I still don’t have an L bracket for my tripod. All the fittings including an L bracket and half a dozen tripod plates are in my Amazon basket but cannot find a ball head that allows these to fit my tripod. I really do have to change my tripod soon methinks as I am hopeless at keeping the horizon level as I pan…

I'm still not sure who was more surprised...this deer didn't flinch for the entire exposure (only 15 seconds, but still) and then just calmly walked off.

And you know me, my will is eternal

And you know me, you've met me before

Face to with a beast, I will rise from the east

And I'll settle on the ocean floor

And I go by many names also

Some people know me as "hope"

Some people know me as the voice that you hear

When you loosen the noose on the rope

And you know how I know how I know that I'll prosper?

'Cause I stand here beside you today

I have stood in the flames that cremated my brain

And I didn't once flinch or shake

Grazing Horse...

Today we ventured out looking for the first signs of fall and were not disappointed. Just north in caledon we found so many trees that were bursting forth in all the red yellow and gold glory we always associate with fall and autumn, in one particular field this beautiful horse was intently grazing and no matter what i tired i could not get his attention. not one to be dissuaded i caught this shot of him by jumping the fence and getting down low. he didn't even flinch.

I have to be honest. I didn't actually SEE the song sparrow (I think) fly at the Cedar Waxwing. I don't think I saw the waxwing flinch either. I was just happy to have a waxwing in my viewfinder, period.

Had this fellow not flinched as I passed, I would have never seen it. Perfect camo was designed by God for the Cactus Wren!

I wish all of you talented ass photographers who share their work here on Flickr a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.

ADDENDUM: When I got this shot yesterday I was so excited. One of my first thoughts was "I can't wait to show my flickr buddies" So yeah, I actually do mean it when I wish you all well, I don't have to know you all personally to appreciate you.

Stay shooting, my friends. ;o)

This fellow didn't flinch happy to sit for this one.

Just added curves, nothing much.

For a few 'voles' more?

Back-lit., little detail

But that was never the point of the shot

Obsession with high detail is all well and good

But that doesn't in itself produce and interesting shot

Capturing 'the moment' IMO is the key to taking a memorable photograph

And that surely is what we're all striving for?

One more image of my immature Least Bittern. Obviously cool is the dragonfly out there to the left. I did see them flying around and even as I was concentrating on the bittern, pretty pleased that the darner is actually in the same focus plane. It actually cruised right by the bittern's feet and I think the bittern maybe flinched and considered a stab at it. Last of my DIFs (dragons in flight) for a bit so I can catch up on the grebe population explosion over the holiday weekend. As for the odds seeing the bittern, I've been to this same area a couple more times as it is prime grebe viewing here. I spotted the bittern just ONCE since as it did its burst flight out of the left reeds to the right reeds, or vice versa. They DO live in the reeds. Who knew? At my local regional park that just keeps on giving. Be sure and check this image large.

Warriors are the young men in Maasai communities who are in charge of protecting livestock from predators and enemies, and responsible for taking cattle to far away pastures during the dry season. To become warriors young men have to demonstrate bravery by undergoing circumcision in front of the community without flinching or giving any signs of experiencing pain.

I gave Cleo her second infusion today and it went surprisingly well. Of course she now knew exactly what would happen but she still behaved like a good patient. My nephew distracted her with treats and she didn't even flinch when I pricked her with the needle. I hope it will always be that easy but wouldn't bet any money on it. Later she was relaxing in the garden as if nothing had happened.

From a distance I could see this gull on the beach, she was not moving even when vehicles drove by. As I walked towards her she didn't even flinch and I was able to pick her up and move her into the safety of the dunes. She didn't appear to be hurt so I am not sure what was wrong. We were miles from a anywhere and I would not have known where to take her, so I hope she gained strength and survived.

This is one of the many of our backyard Anna's Hummingbird residents. I watched two boys chasing each other all around our yard this morning. I flinched more than once as they came flying straight at my head at high speed during their aerial battles. These are very territorial little birds. This species weighs from 3-6 grams. For comparison, a U.S. Nickle (5 cents) weighs 5g. Or a 20 Euro-Cent coin weighs about 5.7g

First time I've ever seen one of these beautiful birds...and today I saw FIVE of them...three in one tree. In a dog park! In some planted spruce trees. Someone tipped me off that there were owls in the spruce trees, and I literally walked up under the canopy and stood there face to face with her. She didn't even flinch.

This is apparently a local bird and very used to humans. It was calmly sitting on this limb, watching the people walk by, and didn't even flinch when a woman walked her dog right by it. The hawk looked rather bored with it all. Wildwood Park, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania

I admit that I put the leaf on Sethi's head and expected that it would only stay in place for a split second but surprisingly he didn't flinch. :)
