This is a picture taken out of my livinigroom's window of Flight AB6310 from Munich landing at Hamburg Airport on April 8th 2011 around 10:30 PM
Taken with my 8mm Walimex-Fisheye
I tried to take a picture of it when it was sitting on a branch, and then right when I hit the button, he flew! Next thing I knew, I see the picture, and it comes out like this! I hope you like it! Comment all you want!
After watching the geese fly out (and waiting endlessly for the cranes to do the same), we moved on to one of the other ponds. Lots of cranes hanging around there, too. They were leaving in small groups like this one, four or five at a time.
There's almost the full range of flight motion in these five birds - the sort of thing DaVinci might have sketched as a flight study of the crane.

I stopped in at the Parking lot of the Natural Bridges Park and leaned out the window with my new 400mm prime lens. The wind made the thought of getting out and standing in it seem uncomfortable, so I remained in the truck and waited for the next bird to land on the rocks. Soon enough a Pelican came zooming in and pulled up for a short landing. The auto focus on the new lens made quick work of the shot. This would have been impossible with my manual focus lens. So very nice to get this shot with lots of detail and some color.

A flock of poaka (pied stilt - Himantopus himantopus) in flight at Ashley Estuary.
The pied stilt is a dainty wading bird with, as its name suggests, black-and white-colouration and very long legs. It is common at wetlands and coastal areas throughout New Zealand and may be seen feeding alongside oystercatchers.
Pied stilts tend to be shy of people and fly away, yapping, when approached. (www.nzbirdsonline.org.nz)

Worth a couple of hours visit.
The flight sequence was piloted by Kermit Weeks who owns the place (his colleciton.) He's so enthusiastic he seems to want to be there all the time.
