That rail in the grass is where the rail in the photo was in 1903 when Orville Wright went speeding down the track for the world's first engine-powered flight. He made it as far as the first white stone marker past the big gray one. Twelve seconds. The next three flights were longer, marked off my the other stones down the path.
My favorite side story on this was the man from the local Coast Guard station who took the "first flight" photo -- the one you see there on the sign. He had never even SEEN a camera before that morning when Wilbur set his up, pointed it at the end of the rail and told him to "push this button" if he saw space between the plane and the sand. The guy had never seen a camera but took one of the most famous photos ever on his FIRST try!
2008 Reno Air Races Heritage Flight. The F-22 Raptor joined in with the P-51 Mustang and the Lockheed P-38 Lightning. How often do you see that!

Worth a couple of hours visit.
The flight sequence was piloted by Kermit Weeks who owns the place (his colleciton.) He's so enthusiastic he seems to want to be there all the time.
never been in till today, looks like a good place to watch a sporting event . .. fairly close to where i reside in Los Angeles :)
These birds are fast! After a little google research it looks like these are Hooded Merganser. They are pretty rare here, I don't remember seeing them before at least.
The fourth Flight of Lights at the Dane County Regional Airport. Flight of Lights was conceived during the Covid lockdowns as something people could get out and do. Similar to the long-running winter Holiday Fantasy in Lights in Olin Park, Flight of Lights is a drive-by display on the main road to the airport parking and terminal. Flight of Lights ran from March to mid-April.
