Black-Crowned Night Heron

From Cornell:

Black-crowned Night-Herons often spend their days perched on tree limbs or concealed among foliage and branches. They forage in the evening and at night, in water, on mudflats, and on land. In flight they fold their head back against their shoulders, almost making the neck disappear.

I found this photo today among a group of photos i shot at Harris Neck in 2017 - not realizing that i had photographed a night heron in flight - I believe the only time I have done so.

Glad i found it so it could be Explored.

Black headed gull in flight

This hoverfly kept returning to the same leaf, then moving up into the air near. Got out the trusty 200mm macro (manual focus) and started shooting. Got a few keepers out of the session.

Highland Oaks Park

I love shooting ibises in flight - once I trained on them to shoot a bird in flight correctly.

Dreamy.

Floating.

Soaring.

Pastels.

I think it's a shared human condition that we all have a deep need to dream and be inspired and long for beauty and joy.

In my photography I strive for the elements and subjects and colors that will encourage the viewer to respond with joy and inspiration and peace.

I hope this image will inspire and give you joy, even if for only a moment or two...

Mallards launch into the air over an icy Lake Michigan...

All that ice is now melted and spring has sprung :)

Wakodahatchee Wetlands.

A Ring-billed Gull is captured rather closely in flight as it passes the rest of the grounded flock.

This kingfisher landed right next to where I shot the osprey on the Columbia River. As soon as I started taking pictures of it, it took off, affording a flight shot!

Aqua Bowl Park

Isn't it amazing that the autofocus caught the heron despite the difficult background?

ist das nicht erstaunlich, dass der Autofokus den Reiher erwischt hat, trotz des unruhigen Hintergrunds

Getting in one last flight for the day. La Jolla, California.

Cool misty morning on Saturday, the early sunshine warming the water brought a low mist. The Heron taking flight just above the water with the reflection, wing tips just above the water, the small egret in the top right adds balance... really like this image.

Had to split my in-flight album as almost near 500 shots so now its small & large birds in-flight. Catching up :)

Broad-wing hawk hunting the neighbours feeders

This egret was flying past me at Jackson Bottom wetlands.

Osprey in the air against the pretty blue sky.

Seagull soaring by, seemingly unaware of the danger presented by the ominous Cloud Monster above him.

Greater Flamingos in flight

Created for TMI's September contest: "Flights of Fancy"

I dont usually do birds in flight, but as ive been not able to spend much money during lockdown.. Ive upgraded my Canon 7Dmk1 to a 7Dmk2 and the difference is huge! Im over the moon! Tracking birds in flight justs feels effortless compared to the mk1. So thought id share this photo taken with me new 7Dmk2 :)
