Mark's astro photography has inspired me to try and get more night sky shots. I was attempting a composite of the moon through some trees this evening but it wasn't working they way I wanted to when Alex suggested a flashlight photo. That's him holding his flashlight straight up into the sky. I think it turned out pretty well. Hoping to try this again, but somewhere darker and on a moonless night.

Four brightness settings including a strobe and SOS flashing patterns. Strobe is super-bright and described as a self-defense mode to disorient possible attackers. Very nice waterproof unit with case.
And another of my soldering work.
Unfortunately, I took just before I found out a that a flashlight bulb designed for 3V (AAA,AA,C,D are all rated at 1.5V, most flashlights take 2 batteries of whatever size, so 3V total) will blow out when hooked up to a 9V battery - A dumb move in retrospect, but at the time, I was just thinking it would burn brighter, for a shorter period of time.
And it did. For almost a quarter second. D'oh. But hey, at least I know the switch works, right?
I'll replace the bulb, use lower voltage batteries and try it again this weekend.

I made 3 of them for my parents and my brother. Easy and fun. I bought kits from a guy since I was short on time but if I make more I'll order the parts myself.
