I get a lot of questions on my lighting. This is a sample of one of my favorite tools. That's right a flashlight.
See the video:
I captured this shot by hanging a flashlight from the ceiling with a string, setting my camera on a tripod looking up. I set the camera to BULB, turned off the lights, started the flashlight swinging, and hit the shutter.
Here I set a glass flower vase near the camera. Neat effect that I will explore some time.
Every year the army and the navy are showing their equipment on a specific day, known as: "Ziua portilor deschise" (Open doors day).

Some of Aunt Caroline's friends came over on the 4th of July and played this fun game with Molly. Molly thought it was lots of fun, and didn't want to stop. This picture doesn't do it justice, though, so make sure you check out the video.
I post another version for this discussion.
I change the direction of flashlight for drawing the lines.
You can see the round glass of light at the norse.
Here's the "after" pix of the cheap flashlight I sacrificed for this project (note the push button! took me a bit to find one that had that, most of the cheap ones have a slider switch). It's actually cheaper to buy a whole new flashlight than it is to buy the switch and bulb separately, plus I wanted the parabolic reflector.
This thermos has a steel inner flask, not glass, and it's coated with something, power-coat or something, so it's not very reflective so I didn't think the bulb would be bright enough with out the reflector. If that's still not bright enough when I get everything working, I don't know, maybe I'll swap out the conventional bulb for a cluster of LEDs. Though that might have to wait for the Flashlight-Thermos mkII.
I used a flashlight in a dark room to put a spotlight on an gold lettering of an Arabic greeting in my house.
So what do you do when the power goes out AGAIN for the second time this month. Well first you take a few macros of a spider in the front yard... then you photograph the wife and kids having fun with flashlights.
