1970's vintage Atlas Flashlight. The Atlas brand products were sold at Standard / Amoco Service Stations. Other Atlas products included car batteries, filters, tires and maps. Atlas is embossed above the upper rivet. The plastic ribbed flashlight is in mint condition. Powered by 2 D batteries. I don't think it was ever used prior to me purchasing it.
I got this at an estate sale of the deceased owner of Wintercorn's Amoco that was located in Tinley Park, IL.
I really like this one. But I made it a little lighter.

Left one is broken. Battery-adapter goes too deep. As you can see AAA-battery goes there too. Right one is OK.
I think why make not use all empty space of the chassis. With partition chassis so, they get 3xAAA batteries to fit with adapter at back of flashlight makes no sense to me. Why simply use 2xAA batteries without any adapters.

The height Rapeseed grows to is not to be underestimated. this spot was quite an effort to get to. my pants are now covered in pollen!

Around 1970, I went to Madison Square Garden to see the circus, attending with my Cub Scout troop. All the scouts were insistent that we each buy a Barnum & Bailey Circus Flashlight so we could twirl them in unison and create a grand spectacle, which we did. I remember looking across the arena and seeing many other twirling red lights. The flashlight came attached to a shiny red plastic cord, which has disappeared from mine, shown here. Poor clown, he is quite faded after all this time. The light bulb still works!

The lights went out today at about 6pm so it was time to gather up my emergency supplies. The red jump kit bag sits near our back door in case we need to grab it and go sometime, and contains flashlights, a folding knife, first aid supplies, reflective blankets, water purifying tablets, hand warmers, Gatorade concentrate, rope, a phone card, tape, a metal cup, and moleskin.
I fired up my electric generator and ran the refrigerator for about 45 minutes, to keep things cool in there.
It was around 100 degrees F so we headed over to the mall to get something to eat. Lights were out for several blocks to the west.
When we got home two hours after the outage the power was back. According to the flashing clock on my nightstand, we came home just 14 minutes after the problem was cured.
