Macro Mondays theme: Monday, September 18th theme - then and now, before and after, yesterday and today...

Tried a few things for this theme after rumaging through my little box of memorabilia - ie "STUFF" - my biggest problem was to get into the "3-inch rule" limit. Had to use a ruler to make sure I cropped to the 3" limit.

This image has a my old iPhone, an older flash and something you may not recognize - a disposable Flash Cube. These compact little pieces were developed in the 1960's by Kodak for their Instamatic series of cameras and with an adapter you could actually use them on SLR's. I tried to include the adapter, but couldn't get it in because of the 3" rule.

Happy Macro Monday to all ...

Fuji X-E2. Usually, I am trying to avoid flash (the light is too hard and harsh). Using it indirectly, with the help of a mirror, there are some creative possibilities though.

Finally got round to painting last sheet of flash in the set. The other sheets are meant to be this colour as well but scanner wasn't working before so I had to use my rubbish camera.

Starting to get some results with the flash.

For Macro Mondays theme "Photography Gear”, this is the diffusion lens on my external flash. This lens distributes the light more evenly over the frame. At the bottom you can see part of another piece, which can be pulled out and down to provide a softer diffused light. In this shot it is just sitting in its holder.

Amazing flash in night

Raining today. I wanted to post this shot of the Red-throated Loon resting. It would close its eyes for a very short time, then they would pop open for about 5 seconds. I don't know how it could get very much sleep, but, all the loons I have photographed rest this same way. Always alert to any noise or movement.

I did use flash on this shot. I have found that it really helps open up the shadows and brighten the colors.

I usually try with & without flash on most subjects.

August is rapidly slipping by. Time to start checking on the Bull Moose. Hopefully, there will be some really big bulls around this fall.

The third trick coal train is on the approach to the Peabody mine in Kayenta where in just over an hour the train will be loaded and ready to depart west for Page. This was the second of three night shots I did this night with this one being the best.

A flash in Cheshire is a shallow lake created when the land subsides after brine pumping has been carried out. Ideal places for wildlife.

Flash Flood on the Universal Studio Tour. Simulating a flash flood in a sleepy Mexican village, Flash Flood drops thousands of gallons of water onto unsuspecting guests from the top of a hill. Water channeled through additional corridors also flow through a Mexican market facade, with a mechanical wagon and sign post situated at the base of the hill “crashing” near the guests.
