Advice from a woodpecker

Find your own rhythm.

Peck away at obstacles.

Be colorful.

Carve out a place for yourself.

Make your voice heard.

It’s ok to be flashy.

Use your head.

This beauty spends a lot of time in our Mt. Ash tree and is quite the poser when I point the camera at him.

Enjoy and thanks so much for coming by!

Quartier de pêcheurs à Aveiro ...Portugal

An old favorite spiffed up a bit. This was one of the first photos I was halfway happy with when I ventured away from 35mm to digital. Unfortunately I had the camera set for low resolution and there isn't much of a file to work with. I don't normally do much alteration to my photos, besides bright/contrast and a little color correction. What you see is what you get for the most part, but I'm fooling around with a few oldies to improve my rather mediocre Photoshop skills.

This is apparently a variety of canna (canna lily, African arrowroot or Indian shot). (See Patrick's comment below.) It caught my eye in the botanical garden in Hain Park. Tentative ID: PlantNet.org. [P1040593_lr_2000]

Thank you all for the clicks, comments & faves.

I was down at Greenway near the water, when this American Goldfinch dropped in for a portrait before moving on.

These are wonderful charismatic birds: noisy, flashy fliers, bold and aggressive hunters.

Two of them have been in our area for most of the summer.

My processed, flashy-artsy version of Cincinnati's famous Findlay Market.

Rio Grande locomotives worked in a tough operating environment along numerous grades, through canyons and tunnels. SD50 No. 5504 was particularly clean (even the snow plow) as it lead train No. 772 between Mesa and Lehi, Utah the morning of June 23, 1988.

I can't say that I've ever encountered such a brightly coloured dahlia before. It most certainly grabbed my attention while visiting the park's garden.

Thank you for your visit and comment, it's greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful day!

My second shot from Sunday evening at Brentor Church.

This isn't really the shot I had set out to get, but with the limited capability of my camera and editing software, I had to make do with a silhouette shot of the church against the night sky rather than what I'd had in mind.

As I've said before, Astrophotography isn't my strong point so I do tend to struggle with it, but in time I'm sure I'll improve.

Back to Dartmoor for today's photo.

This is one I took way back in February but was saving it for Dartmoor Magazine, as it's not being used now I thought I'd post it here. I did post one very similar to this at the time, but it was a more close up crop, I didn't include the sun star peaking over the top of the waterfall.

This specimen let us get relatively close. Could it be more red! There are several other larger and just as beautiful dragons at the BioPark but they don’t land close to where it’s easy to photograph them.

It was odd to see this bird in late February because seeing one is usually a sign of winter coming, not Spring!
