Jason & Linnea Quigley @ Flashback Weekend 2011. 8/14/2011.

Autore:Nuzzarello Samanta. Infioratore: Istituto d'Arte di Noto.

Questo è il particolare di uno dei 16 quadri che compongono l'Infiorata 2008 che più ha colpito il mio sguardo per la diversificazione dei colori.

That was about the last time he'd wear that outfit.

A new dog was not something the children had been expecting. But after seeing a brief segment that featured pets in need of adoption on a local TV show, their hearts were swept away by a dog named Barkley. He had been sighted running along the side of a highway and was lucky not to be hit by a car as he darted about frantically. Once rescued, he still faced an uncertain future: there was nothing to indicate that he had an owner, though he was certainly a beautiful dog. "Won't someone consider giving Barkley a forever home?" asked the TV host.

The children ceaselessly begged their Mom to adopt Barkley, even though she doubted there was enough time or room for another pet.

"We'll take care of him," Little Bea (center) insisted.

"We'll feed and walk him, we promise," declared Peanut (left).

"And don't say that kids promise to take responsibility to get what they want and then slack off. Our word is good," insisted Lyra (right).

Barkley, therefore, found himself a new home; a home where he frolicked with his new pet friends. And, more importantly, a home where he lavished love and attention on everyone.

Without his having any way of knowing it, Barkley, like many pets, may have brought as much to his new family's life as they brought to his...

Shades of grey?

You ask.

Puzzled. In askance.

You wonder that

I like them!

I know I don’t

Need to explain-

But I’d like to share-

Maybe, then you’ll see them fair!

The grey in dawn-

The beginning of life;

That space between the

Eyelids and the eye

Before they open;

The softness of grey clouds-

Such a warm and cosy shelter

From the blinding sun.

Deeper grey- storm clouds:

Harbingers of the elixir of life;

Spreading to the grey drops

That fill and surge and quench

The Earth!

The colour of Grief

Which resounds only

In a heart that loves;

The colour of possibilities

Unnamed and innumerable;

The hue of ash,

That makes a man of a Son

And a woman of a Daughter.

It is the grey

That defines-

In more ways

Than I can tell you-

More than all the

Whites and Blacks;

For it carries

Both

In generous balance-

Black and White

To the Grey of

Experience!

Flashback to the Most Exciting French Celebration of the year!

Witnessing the arrival of the steam engine 'Tornado' at Kings Cross last weekend ( coincidentally also on the 7th of the month which was when this shot was taken ), and the visible emotions of the large crowd reminded me of the visit of The Sultan's Elephant and The Girl ( pictured ) to London in May 2006. summed up perfectly by this quote:

‘We are entranced. We have not stopped smiling or looking dreamy for days. If you didn’t know us better, you’d say we were in love… But this week we have rediscovered the child in our self and are a-quiver with enchantment. … Yes, yes, I know. But the truth is that I, like everyone else, came out to have a quick look and felt bound to stay to have a second, and a third… We watched as if in a dream.’

Since I just posted a bunch of pics of the SP tunnel motor on the CF&E, I thought I'd flashback to the last time I saw a true SP unit lead. In May 2009 an unpatched SP GP60 led a baretable train from Global 1 to Yard Center. Here we see it crossing the diamonds at Dolton as it approaches its destination. Thanks to everyone for the heads up on this one!

Flashback

Memphis, Tenn.

14 Aug 1988, Sun

“Chrome grilles, flying fins and rumble seats cruise into town for the Motor Muster; a nostalgic flashback of dream machines from the 1930s-50s, this revved up weekend salutes cars of a more recent vintage.”

Up at 8.30, very hot morning but worthwhile took a couple of tours. Left at 1.00ish and went to Dearborn Music, Icehouse and Beetlejuice. Rain poured down so interior got a bit wet. Went to Little Professor Bookshop then home. Spent arvo in den watching “Hey, Hey” that Colin had brought from Aussie.

Yesterday was the 37th day of temperatures 90 degrees plus (32 C) making it officially the hottest summer ever. The last time was in 1934.
