Randomness Guide to London

Back from when I went to the zoo. :)

Recently I had the fortune to visit the Gallipoli pennisula to experience the Australian holy spot first-hand. While sombrely walking between the rows of graves at Lone Pine, overlooking Anzac Cove, I found this man - and a film crew with some Turkish and Tommy extras - and he obliged me with a handshake and this photo.

While usually I don't like to hoist my interpretations onto the audience - rather to let them form their own story and moral to every picture - I found this one too personally touching.

To me - in my perspective six months later - it feels like such contrast between the legend birthplace of Anzac Cove sprawling behind the man (a representation of the fabled past) and the man himself is a personification of the national icon that Gallipoli is in the modern world; the reality.

The colour is the new. The sepia is the old. That lessens neither the old nor the new, though!

Here's a 37 year spread with two of my oldest buds. The top shot is on our bikes in Bailey, Colorado in 2002 and the row below is the 3 of us from our 1965 high school yearbook. Robert had just ridden that nice Honda all the way from Houston to ride with us, Buddy lived about 15 miles up the road by this time. We had a great ride and even went to the top of Mount Evans at 14,264 feet.

Upcycled from a woollen jumper dress.

Yes, I was a teenager in the sixties…I think…. :-O <--Sorry about the Mick Jagger mouth!

Went to the Lighthouse Gallery in Wolverhampton today to see Bruce Gilden's 'A Beautiful Catastrophe' exhibition. Amazing photos but the exhibition as a whole isn't great, it's a bit cramped in there, decided to stop at Wolverhampton Art Gallery on the way back, took this in Gary Hume's exhibition 'Flashback'.

Flashback Friday Group Picture

My BF was the girl in the light cardy over dress and long socks. I think her name might have been Shannon.

I have a freaky memory, and I could still tell you who was the bully, who still had 'toileting' accidents, and etc.

Which is pretty good considering we moved town a lot.

I think remembering was my way of holding on to some sense of reality.

If I could remember people, then they really did exist. And hanging onto the memory of old friends make it easier when I was sad and lonely and trying to make new ones ...

Issues, so many issues...

And I was 4yrs old.

Sustained Investigation: The portrayal of adolescence through the lens of film.

Materials: My sister, a framed photo of my sister and me, window, table, and glass object.

Idea: Throughout teen film, there's usually a moment where do your protagonist, looks back at some item that reminds them of who they were prior to the movie. I was trying to replicate a feeling of self awareness in this photo.

Process: This photo was actually kind of simple as well, I was sitting at my dad's desk and I saw my sister walked by the window and I thought it was a great photo. I had her walk back so I could take it multiple times after that, I found the right one and edited it.

Color-blocked, added flutter sleeves, binding around arm. Blogged here: erickmarnae.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/croquet-skirt-flashb...

Sammy was bossy from day one as you can see. It was right after Maggie died that he magically took on her personality. He became the sweetest, gentlest dog we've ever had. My wife and I couldn't understand what happened. It was like someone flicked a switch.

My little pork chop in her new thermal shirt. We would live in these if we had enough because its just so darn cold where we live. I guess I need to start making them for the whole family. Pattern is flashback skinny tee and fabric is from Girl Charlee. And, yes, those are cupids.

The Car Show

On Sunday, The Manitoba Transit Heritage Association (MTHA) featured three fine vintage buses from it’s fleet at the Car Show in the south parking lot of the Garden City Shopping Centre. A local Mecca for car & vintage vehicle enthusiasts, the MTHA proudly displayed the 1956 Western Flyer “Scenic Cruiser”, the 1966 Western Flyer P-41 Canuck and the 1984 Flyer D901 transit bus.

I'm not sure if this drawing of me as a teenager was meant to be an insult or not, but it is actually quite accurate. They got everything right down to my three foot tall platform shoes, Don King hairdo, and excessive facial makeup. (I was going through some difficult changes at the time.)
