Actually, the strip was behind me... this is looking down East Flamingo Road. I was standing on the pedestrian walkway that crosses over the street. Wasn't easy to find an unobstructed view of the sunrise that morning.
As the sun rose behind me, it illuminated the cloud over the Bellagio Hotel. The few cars out on the road this time of day still had lights on, but not for long.

The Las Vegas Strip is a stretch of South Las Vegas Boulevard in Clark County, Nevada that is known for its concentration of resort hotels and casinos. The Strip is approximately 4.2 miles (6.8 km) in length, located immediately south of the Las Vegas city limits in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester. However, the Strip is often referred to as being in Las Vegas. Many of the largest hotel, casino, and resort properties in the world are located on the Strip. The boulevard's cityscape is highlighted by its use of contemporary architecture, lights, and a wide variety of attractions. Its hotels, casinos, restaurants, residential high-rises, entertainment offerings, and skyline have established the Strip as one of the most popular and iconic tourist destinations in the world. Most of the Strip has also been designated as an All-American Road and is considered a scenic route at night.

Bellagio is a resort, luxury hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International and was built on the site of the demolished Dunes hotel and casino. Inspired by the Lake Como town of Bellagio in Italy, Bellagio is famed for its elegance. One of its most notable features is an 8-acre (3.2 ha) lake between the building and the Strip, which houses the Fountains of Bellagio, a large dancing water fountain synchronized to music. Inside Bellagio, Dale Chihuly's Fiori di Como, composed of over 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers, covers 2,000 sq ft (190 m2) of the lobby ceiling. Bellagio is home to Cirque du Soleil's aquatic production "O". The main (original) tower of Bellagio, with 3,015 rooms, has 36 floors and a height of 508 ft (151 m). The Spa Tower, which opened on December 23, 2004, and stands to the south of the main tower, has 33 floors, a height of 392 ft (119 m) and contains 935 rooms.

Pembroke Lakes Mall, often referred to as Pines Mall or Pembroke Lakes, is an enclosed shopping mall located in Pembroke Pines, Florida, a suburb of Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Located on the intersection of State Road 820 (Pines Boulevard) and State Road 823 (Flamingo Road), it is in between Interstate 75 and Florida's Turnpike. Owned and managed by Brookfield Properties, the mall was opened in 1992, and has 1,135,374 square feet (105,479.7 m2) on one floor. As of 2018, Pembroke Lakes is one of South Florida's most popular malls. The anchor stores are Round One Entertainment, AMC Theatres, 2 Dillard's stores, JCPenney, and 2 Macy's stores.
After a planned fall 1991 opening, the mall opened to the public on October 28, 1992 as the third final Homart property, with a 181,847 sq ft (16,894.1 m2) Burdines, an 80,823 sq ft (7,508.7 m2) Mervyn's (both opened on September 19), a 141,751 sq ft (13,169.1 m2) Sears (opened September 29), and a 147,760 sq ft (13,727 m2) J. C. Penney (which also opened another at Miami International Mall) as anchors. Just like Pompano Fashion Square also in Broward County, Mervyn's was the only single level anchor store while Burdines, JCPenney, and Sears had 2 levels.
The JCPenney and Burdines stores in the mall replaced their stores at Hollywood Fashion Center while Sears relocated from the Hollywood Mall. A 157,473 sq ft (14,629.7 m2) Dillard's later filled the fifth anchor pad between Sears and the main entrance as a fourth multi-level store. This was their second location in South Florida (the first was at The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale) and opened on August 16, 1995; the store opened almost three years after the other 4 anchors. This was likewise done at North Point Mall a year later, while stores also opened at the newly opened Seminole Towne Center and Lakeline Mall during this time (Another area store at The Mall at Wellington Green eventually opened within that mall in 2001). Only two years later, in 1997, Dillard's converted the Mervyn's store into a second location, housing the men's and home departments, thus reconfiguring their existing store to house ladies and children's clothing.
Burdines merged with Macy's in 2003 and then became simply Macy's in 2005, housing women's and kid's clothing. Shortly thereafter, in 2006, Macy's would also fill the sixth anchor pad as a second location for their men's and home departments. This 70,000 sq ft (6,500 m2) single level store was built between the food court and original Macy's. A four-story parking garage was also added next to both Macy's stores.
In 2016, GGP announced that the mall's Sears shrunk to 101,621 sq ft (9,440.9 m2) make room for a 40,130 sq ft (3,728 m2) square foot AMC movie theater, which opened in 2017. Sears closed on September 15, 2019. In Q3 2019, Round One Entertainment announced that a new location would open in Pembroke Lakes Mall with an original opening date of Spring 2021, in the former Sears vacant anchor store, making it the first and only Round1 in the State of Florida. Due to the ongoing pandemic, construction was severely delayed. Round One Entertainment officially opened to the public on June 11, 2022.

I had no idea what I was shooting this night. The ledge of the bridge at the bottom of the frame was too high for me to position the camera and still see into the waist level finder :) So I took a guess and pointed the camera where I thought I might get a decent shot. Not too shabby!

The building that was last known as the Key Largo Hotel & Casino opened in 1978 as the Ambassador Casino. It had many names throughout its life. The Key Largo closed in 2005 and sat abandoned ever since. A four alarm fire happened at the end of March 2013, and the building is scheduled to be demolished this week. Rest In Peace!
Robert Wilder’s 1942 novel “Flamingo Road” is a brutal novel of big-time vice, politics and corruption set in a Florida town run by a corrupt sheriff. Wilder turned it into a short-lived Broadway play in 1946, which lasted only 7 performances.
In 1949, Warner Brothers bought the rights to “Flamingo Road” and turned it into a feature film directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Joan Crawford, Zachary Scott, and Sydney Greenstreet. Lane Bellamy (played by Crawford) is a tough, cynical carnival dancer who attempts to move up the social ladder in the corrupt Florida hamlet of Bolden City. She falls in love with Fielding Carlisle (played by Zachary Scott), the political protégé of the town's big-daddy sheriff Titus Semple (Sidney Greenstreet). Semple regards Lane as a gold-digging troublemaker, and does his best to break up the romance, framing her on a trumped-up morals charge and having her shipped off to prison. NBC transformed the story into a weekly TV series during the ‘80s in the wake of the success of CBS’ prime time soaps “Dallas” and “Knots Landing.” First seen as a TV movie in May, 1980, the TV series “Flamingo Road” ran for 37 episodes from January, 1981 to May, 1982. If you have been following my stream for a while, you will be forgiven for thinking you have seen this before ( www.flickr.com/photos/photomat-/5163873008/ ). This is the second frame I took that night but accidentally opened the back before rewinding the film. The original 6x6 frame has a really nice light leak across the top, so 6x45 crop it is. I don't really like to convert color film scans to B&W but was in the mood for some monochrome and thought why not? :) I am a sucker for high contrast B&W!

Las Vegas, in some ways, is a huge tease. There's always the implied promise of nudity but unless you've paid to be inside a showroom and it's 18+, it just isn't going to happen. The Rio (a casino in the Harrah's family) has a floor show on one of their main casino floors called "Masquerade Show In The Sky." It's supposed to have sort of a Mardi Gras/Carnival feel where beads are thrown from the stage at the audience and the like. But, unlike its inspiration, there isn't any flashing. There is, however, girls wearing tight red leather costumes stripping just to the point where it's still dancing. Here two of the showgirls face away from the audience to take off the final piece of clothing they would while shielded by one of the male dancers implying he's about to engage in an act that would only be legal on stage in New Orleans.
