Taken in Stanwell Park, on one of many wonderful day trips through the Southern Highlands in New South Wales. Initially I was disappointed with the weather but ultimately it made the day much more memorable. The fog made the colour of the Flame trees even more dramatic.

Camp Fire, Colour ot the flame came from copper based chemicals.

grateful for good high ISO performance here :)

California Fires Update: Fires are throughout the state. I'm in the north-central-coastal region (the state is 900 miles long), and we have forest fires blazing 50 miles north and many grass fires closer to home. I cannot go out of the house without a mask. Smoke has closed several major roads. I have not been directly affected except for the loss of some trees due to high winds that "tunnel" through this area funneled by the mountain passes. Power will be continually interrupted, but the system has never been thought out: to find out where power will be cut by the utility, you're supposed to go to their web site... Try that without power.

I found this, for today, an appropriately named Flame Skimmer - one of the first SX20 shots - yesterday during the half-hour we had power. In terms of how red it is, believe me when I say that the Cardinal and Firecracker Dragons are even redder! But the SX20 was able to capture the segment markers. We're talking RED folks.

I must be brief today. The smoke from the fires will keep me indoors, and I'm not sure if we'll still have power. Apologies if I don't get to your images for comments, but it is what it is, and what it is is a growing dislike for the phrase, it is what it is.

This group of towers is visible from just about everywhere in Baku. They contain residential apartments, a hotel and offices, and are lit at night to resemble rising flames.

The Weekly Theme for the 365 Project this week is Winter. Left it a bit too late to go out with the camera today so what better than a warm fire for inspiration ...

A welcome sight on a cold rainy day to see a roaring log fire.

The logs had a wonderful aroma.

Interesting flame shapes.
