The park is called "Princess Place Preserve", since the bride of an exiled Russian Prince once lived here with her beau. The prince, fearing for his life, moved to this somewhat remote part of Florida, and changed his name slightly, though I doubt it would have done any good to do so, since it still sounded the same!
The grounds were the simple, but beautiful backdrop for the former royalty's home, where guests would visit and relax on the wrap around porch of their rustic lodge. The posts which held up the roof were fashioned out of logs that still had some of the offshoots of their branches showing, giving it a unique and natural appearance.
That lodge remains, and through its open windows, you can see some of the furnishings and decor of the time. Granted, this was no Russian palace, it was a safe place where life still had its amenities, including Florida's very first concrete, in ground pool. Though small, it would have been considered quite the luxury in its day.
Now, the place is a park, and people ride horses, though not out of the ground's stables, which are still open to walk through. The huge Southern Live Oaks grace the property, and you can still watch the tranquil water views from rocking chairs on the porch. It's a place fit for a princess.
