Footdee (“Fittie”), Aberdeen - mid-19th Century former fishing community designed by John Smith, the architect responsible for Balmoral Castle. The planned community was built to re-house the fishermen, and their families, who were living in very poor quality housing around the harbour area. The area is still residential, maintained with pride, and full of colourful and artistic touches.

Under the vast blue skies of Cox's Bazar, Bangladesh, local fishermen cast their vibrant, colorful nets into the largest sea, weaving a daily tapestry of tradition and livelihood. Each throw of the net tells a story of resilience and connection to the sea, capturing the beauty of their way of life. The vivid colors of the nets against the deep blue waters create a stunning contrast, embodying the harmony between nature and human effort.

Pretty Prospect Village a few weeks back.

The sunset behind this old volcanic cone almost makes it look like the vent is erupting. This shot was taken as we crossed the pass in the mountains of the Snæfellsnes Pennisula in western Iceland before we descended into the fishing village of Ólafsvík.

Decided to change things up a little and do something different. Digging through the photo archives, I stumbled upon this photo and remembered how cool I thought these buoys looked hanging from the rope. Being from Newfoundland, I love the Maritime landscape and picturesque fishing communities.

My vision on this photo was to go for something like a watercolour painting...I liked the result and can picture hanging this one on my wall.

Steveston is a fishing village on the South Arm of the Fraser River that dates back to the late 19th century.

It was home to a large fleet of salmon fishing boats and attracted many native Candian, Japanese and Asian fishermen who came to the town to make their living.

The town is still home to many boats, though the canneries and boatyards are either abandoned or museums now.

The small fishing harbor in Mutrah is a vital hub for the local fishing community. It’s where fishermen bring in their daily catch in small boats, to supply fresh fish to nearby markets, including the Mutrah Fish Market. The harbour is located near the Mutrah Corniche and offers a glimpse into everyday life in Mutrah, with scenes of fishermen cleaning and sorting their catch, repairing nets, or preparing for the next day at sea. The backdrop of the rugged Hajar Mountains and the proximity to the scenic Corniche make it a picturesque and culturally rich spot – Mutrah, Muscat, Oman

We went out to dinner tonight at a diner I like on route to Peggy's Cove. It actually looked like it was going to rain, but thankfully it didn't and I was lucky enough to capture the Cove, albeit briefly in the most gorgeous light.

This scene is Princeton Newfoundland, on the west side of the Bonavista Peninsula. We were here to meet Chris Prince , captain of Sea of Whales zodiac that took us out to look for whales and visit a HUGE iceberg off the shore of Duntara Newfoundland. This is typical of a small out port wharf that is quintessential Newfoundland. Lobster traps and fish boats and the obligatory fog!!

Fishing boats port in Essaouira

Not many come to realize that lobster fishing isn't all that easy, as it takes a great deal of patience as well as a bit of frustration. Machinery often times breaks down and needs to be constantly maintained or replaced, seagulls love a hearty meal from the lobster traps often times stealing the bait, traps get swept onto the shorelines, sizes or weight of lobsters may be a throw back, storms or a disabled boat. Fishing can be fun if you can handle the challenges

At the very edge of Norway’s rugged coastline, Veiholmen stretches into the Atlantic like a quiet sentinel. On this October afternoon, the sky unfolds in rippled layers of silver and gray, mirrored perfectly in the still waters below. Red boathouses and weathered homes cling to the rocks, telling stories of centuries bound to the sea. Here, where land surrenders to ocean, time feels suspended—an eternal dialogue between sky, water, and stone.

Fact: Veiholmen is one of Norway’s most exposed fishing villages, located on Smøla in Møre og Romsdal. It is known for its dramatic weather, rich fishing heritage, and breathtaking views toward the open Atlantic.

Fun Fact: Veiholmen was once home to more than 1,000 inhabitants during its peak fishing era, making it one of Norway’s largest fishing communities outside the Lofoten region.

As lobster fishermen get ready to release their lobster traps the traps need to be baited. Once baited and trap set, fresh lobster is what they'll pull up. The challenge? Seagulls who try to eat the bait
