The white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) is a very large species of sea eagle widely distributed across temperate Eurasia. As are all eagles, it is a member of the family Accipitridae (or accipitrids) which includes other diurnal raptors such as hawks, kites, and harriers. One of up to eleven members in the genus Haliaeetus, which are commonly called sea eagles, it is also referred to as the white-tailed sea-eagle.[2] Sometimes, it is known as the ern or erne (depending on spelling by sources),[3] gray sea eagle[4] and Eurasian sea eagle[5]
While found across a very wide range, today breeding as far west as Greenland and Iceland across to as far east in Hokkaido, Japan, they are often scarce and very spottily distributed as a nesting species, mainly due to human activities. These have included habitat alterations and destruction of wetlands, about a hundred years of systematic persecution by humans (from the early 1800s to around World War II) followed by inadvertent poisonings and epidemics of nesting failures due to various manmade chemical pesticides and organic compounds, which have threatened eagles since roughly the 1950s and continue to be a potential concern. Due to this, the white-tailed eagle was considered endangered or extinct in several countries.[3][6][7][8] However, some populations have recovered well due to some governmental protections and dedicated conservationists and naturalists protecting habitats and nesting sites and partially regulating poaching and pesticide usage, as well as careful reintroductions into parts of their former range.[9][10][11]
White-tailed eagles usually live most of the year near large bodies of open water, including both coastal saltwater areas and inland freshwater, and require an abundant food supply and old-growth trees or ample sea cliffs for nesting.[3][9] They are considered a close cousin of the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), which occupies a similar niche in North America.
Auch der Fotograf braucht viel Ruhe und Geduld bis sich ein Reiher zufällig in seine Nähe begibt und zum Fischen anfängt.
Außer in Parks oder Zoos, wo der Reiher weiß, dass ihm nichts geschieht, ist seine Fluchtdisdanz und seine Vorsicht sehr hoch.

The photographer also needs a lot of calm and patience until a heron happens to come near him and starts fishing. Except in parks or zoos, where the heron knows that nothing will happen to it, its flight distance and caution are very high.
These two gentlemen are enjoying a nice, quiet afternoon and are hoping to bring home some big fish, I assume.
Es gibt Tage, da hat ein Eisvogel unendlich viel Hunger und kommt zum Fischen - glücklicherweise für den Fotografen - immer zur selben Stelle. Und irgendwann hat der Fotograf auch das Glück, den Eisvogel beim Auftauchen, mit genügend Schärfe, abzulichten.

Dieser Silberreiher ist inzwischen ein alter Bekannter. Man kann sich fast darauf verlassen, dass er für mehrere Stunden auf seinem erhöhten Ausguck steht. Ich wollte ihn liebend gerne beim Fischen fotografieren, aber da ist er viel zu scheu und seine Fluchtdistanz ist sehr hoch. Vielleicht gelingt es mir doch noch einmal mit meinem Tarnzelt ihn zu überlisten und abzulichten.
This Great White Egret is now an old acquaintance. You can almost rely on it standing on its raised lookout for several hours. I would have loved to photograph him while fishing, but he is much too shy and his escape distance is very long. Perhaps I will succeed in outwitting him once again with my camouflage tent and take a picture of him.
Die Fischauktionshalle in Hamburg-Altona wurde 1895/96 in Altona am neugebauten Fischereihafen an der Elbe errichtet, um Versteigerung, Handel und Versand von dort angelandeten Fischen zu ermöglichen. Daneben diente das Gebäude der Lagerung und Reparatur von Fischereigeräten und der Verteilung von Kühleis. Die Halle dient seit ihrer Restaurierung 1984 als Ort für Veranstaltungen. Der mit Ziegelwerk ausgefachte Stahlträgerbau steht seit 1984 unter Denkmalschutz und zeugt von der Bedeutung des Fischhandels der ehemals konkurrierenden Städte Hamburg und Altona. The fish auction hall in Hamburg-Altona was built in 1895/96 in Altona at the newly built fishing port on the Elbe to allow auctioning, trading and shipping of fish landed there. In addition, the building was used for the storage and repair of fishing equipment and the distribution of cooling ice. Since its restoration in 1984, the hall has been used as a venue for events. The brick-worked steel beam structure has been listed as a monument since 1984 and is a testament to the importance of the fish trade in the formerly competing cities of Hamburg and Altona. Für ein Bild an einem der Allgäuer-Topmotive ging es im Sommer 2016 per Tagestour an die Strecke Immenstadt - Oberstdorf. Nur an den längsten Sommertagen des Jahres waren Aufnahmen der beiden im Abstand von wenigen Minuten folgenden, nordwärts fahrenden Fernverkehrszüge mit 218-Bespannung mit wenigstens einem Hauch von Frontlicht möglich. Dank eines wolkenlosen Himmels und anhaltender Windstille gelang u.a. auch dieses Bild von 218 434 mit IC 2012 Allgäu (Oberstdorf - Hannover Hbf) vor der markanten Frauenkapelle der kleinen Gemeinde Fischen im Allgäu kurz nach dem Halt im dortigen Bahnhof - inklusive optimaler Spiegelung im aufgestauten Grundbach.

In the summer of 2016, I went on a day trip to the railway-route from Immenstadt to Oberstdorf in the German region Allgäu for a picture of one of the Allgäu top motives. Only on the longest summer days of the year it was possible to take pictures of the two northbound Intercity-trains with class 218 hauling, which followed a few minutes apart, with at least a hint of front light on the locomotive. Thanks to a cloudless sky and persistent calm, this picture of 218 434 with Intercity 2012 named „Allgäu“ from Oberstdorf to Hannover Central Station in front of the distinctive women’s chapel („Frauenkapelle“) in the small community of Fischen im Allgäu was taken shortly after stopping at the local train station – including an optimal reflection in the dammed stream „Grundbach“.

It inhabits large parts of Europe, Asia and western North Africa and lives in moderately fast-flowing or stagnant, clear waters with small fish and perching areas. Its diet consists of fish, aquatic insects, small crustaceans and tadpoles. The population has rebounded in recent years and the species is currently classified as depleted in Europe, but as low threat throughout its range. The Kingfisher was Bird of the Year in Germany in 1973 and 2009, in the Czech Republic in 2000, in Belgium in 2005, in Switzerland in 2006, in Austria in 2009 and in Slovakia in 2011.

The mill beacon in Świnoujście on the island of Usedom is on the west pier and shows the ships the entry into the Świnoujście. The stylized windmill is around 10 m high and is a shipping sign and at the same time the symbol of Swinoujscie. The mill beacon was built in Swinoujscie in 1857. It was not painted white until later.
Today it is one of the most romantic places in the Baltic Sea resort of Swinoujscie. From the west pier in Swinoujscie you can enjoy a wonderful view over the Usedom Bay. Sometimes you can watch the fishermen at work from there when they fish close to the coast. Of course, the brisk shipping traffic on the Swine from fishermen, navy, pilot boats but also the car and truck ferries that run daily to Denmark and Sweden pass the Mühlenbake in Świnoujście.

Die Mühlenbake in Swinemünde auf der Insel Usedom steht auf der Westmole und zeigt den Schiffen die Einfahrt in die Swine an. Die stilisierte Windmühle ist rund 10 m hoch und ein Schifffahrtszeichen und gleichzeitig das Wahrzeichen Swinemündes. Errichtet wurde die Mühlenbake in Swinemünde 1857. Den weißen Anstrich erhielt sie erst später.
Heute ist sie einer der romantischsten Orte des Ostseebades Swinemünde. Von der Westmole in Swinemünde aus genießt man einen traumhaften Blick über die Usedomer Bucht. Manchmal kann man von dort den Fischern bei der Arbeit zusehen, wenn sie nahe an der Küste fischen. Natürlich passiert auch der rege Schiffsverkehr auf der Swine von Fischern, Marine, Lotsenboote aber auch die täglich nach Dänemark und Schweden verkehrenden Auto- und LKW-Fähren die Mühlenbake in Świnoujście.

Für die beiden vormittäglichen ICs von Oberstdorf Richtung Immenstadt gibt es im genannten Abschnitt quasi nur Stellen mit Frontschatten, einzige Ausnahme mit guter Frontausleuchtung ist an der Illerbrücke in Fischen. Für die Umsetzung ist allerdings ein Hochstativ erforderlich, man steht hier deutlich unter Gleishöhe und Bewuchs macht die Sache nicht einfacher. Aus zehn Meter Höhe wurde am 04.04.2021 218 456 mit IC 2084 fotografiert.

Das Ulu ist ein Messer, das traditionell von den Frauen der Inuit genutzt wird. Die Grundform ist eine dünne Klinge mit halbkreisförmiger Schneide und einem Griff mittig an der Gegenseite. Es wird zum Häuten und Zerteilen der Jagdbeute, Filetieren von Fischen und zum Zubereiten und Zerkleinern der Nahrung eingesetzt.

er flog erst eine Runde, ging fischen und kam dann zum Putzen und Gefieder trocknen an den Strand
Zittern war an jenem Sonntag Ende Mai 2021 in Fischen angesagt. Am bekannten Fotopunkt mit der Pfarrkirche St. Verena im Hintergrund und dem Grundbach davor zogen beim Warten auf den IC Nebelhorn immer mehr Quellwolken auf und bedeckten immer wieder die Sonne. Passend zur Durchfahrt der damals leihweise in Ulm befindlichen Karlsruher 218 484 mit dem IC 2084 Oberstdorf - Augsburg Hbf (- Hamburg-Altona) gab es jedoch ungetrübten Sonnenschein und das Foto konnte wie gewünscht umgesetzt werden.
Der Kölner Zoo zieht Graureiher magisch an vor allem zu den Fütterungszeiten. Es gibt immer irgendwo etwas zu fischen oder zu stehlen.

Yesterday I decided, that I will not share the destination of my trip so fast. Instead, I will approach day by day a bit closer.
The land I am talking about, is a proud mariners nation with a history what is absolutely worth of beeing proud of. Today, fishing is still an important economic branch in many regions of the country.
I spend some hours in a fishing harbour to open myself for this special atmosphere here.
Like this fishing net, everything seemed to be totally chaotic there. But after a while I realised, that anything was on its place following its destiny.
Ich habe mich gestern dazu entschlossen, nicht so schnell zu verraten, wo das Ziel meiner Reise war. Stattdessen werde ich mich Tag für Tag ein Stück näher heran tasten.
Das Land, um was es geht, ist eine stolze Seefahrer Nation mit einer Geschichte, die es absolut wert ist stolz darauf zu sein. Auch heute noch ist der Fischfang ein bedeutender Wirtschaftszweig in vielen Regionen des Landes. Ich habe ein paar Stunden in einem kleinen Fischerei Hafen verbracht und die besondere Atmosphäre auf mich wirken lassen.
Wie dieses Fischernetz wirkte alles auf den ersten Blick völlig chaotisch. Doch nach einiger Zeit erkannte ich, dass alles seinen Platz hat und seiner Bestimmung folgt.

The moment when the setting sun meets the horizon, seemingly melting into the Andaman sea. A special evening on Phuket island, with longtail boats out fishing off shore.
Technically not perfect, i wish it was a bit sharper and lost a slightly more "melting" shot a few seconds later due to blur, but i am lucky to get some useable frames thanks to VR lens, all handheld @300mm on ISO 100 and 1/200 or 1/320 speed :)
