I tried to grow Shasta daisies for years with no luck, but this little weed just popped up one day this spring and would like to take over. I read that I have to mercilessly pull it out or it will take over the whole yard. And I believe it!

#20/52, Light Manipulation, 52 weeks in 2022

Judging by the disproportionate ratio of Zero Year full suit to crossbow suit customs I've seen on Flickr, I have serious doubts that everyone who's made the latter fig has even read the entire event, or can even name who wrote and drew the N52 Batman run off the top of their head. I think this is a good example of how the Flickr Lego community is a little too "follow the leader-ey," in that customs are made simply because other customizers are making them.

Mini-rant aside, here's the very first appearance suit of Batman in the New 52 DC continuity! I tried to replicate the ribbing on Batman's arms and legs with the parts you see in the photo. I'm currently catching up on the entire N52 Batman run (which is absolutely amazing on all counts), and although Zero Year isn't exactly my favorite arc, the kaleidoscopic inks and tense interactions between Bruce and a semi-green Captain Gordon are really enjoyable elements. I'm not sure if Zero Year was fully or partially retconned by Superman: Reborn; hopefully DC will have the brains to publish an updated guide to continuity after this November's Doomsday Clock.

"HULK SMASH LITTLE MAN!!!"

This is the first 80th anniversary set I got, and I must say, it's pretty sweet. It has, after what seems like a forever wait, the definitive classic-looking Hulk, and a first appearance Wolvie that makes me quite happy - because I'm all about Wolverine.

Have you grabbed this set, or are you planning on grabbing this set? Let me know in the comments.

Have fun, and happy collecting!

Eventually he became the Caped Crusader. Not at this point.

Along with original works by the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, Graham's is best known for its many hand-colored fashion plates.

Author James Michener, a former U.S. Navy officer, was an embedded reporter on aircraft carriers during the Korean War. His book, “The Bridges at Toko-Ri,” details the experiences of Navy pilots in the Korean War as they undertake a mission to destroy heavily protected bridges in enemy territory. The book was made into a film of the same name in 1954, starring Grace Kelly and William Holden. Here is a clip of the low fuel carrier landing from the film:

This is one of the best quality surviving copies of "Action Comics No. 1" which is the first appearance of Superman. Considering this comic is now 80 years old, it is in fantastic condition.

Published here before anywhere else are three stories by Edgar Allan Poe: "The Murders in the Rue Morgue," "A Descent Into the Maelstrom," and "The Island of the Fay."

Ernest Hemingway’s first bestseller and arguably one of the best novels written about World War I, “A Farewell to Arms,” was first serialized in the May – October 1929 issues of Scribner’s Magazine. It was published in book form in September of that year. It is the story of Lieutenant Frederic Henry, an American serving as an ambulance driver in the Italian army, and his love affair with an English nurse named Catherine Barkley. The novel is semi-autobiographical, based on Hemingway’s own experiences serving in the Italian campaigns during World War I.

“The Gift” was an annual literary anthology published in a gift book format for the years 1836, 1837, 1839, 1840, and 1842-1845. Each book was published by Carey & Hart of Philadelphia in the fall of the year prior to the date given in the title, so that The Gift for 1836 was actually issued in October of 1835. Five of the gift books include new tales by Edgar Allan Poe – “Manuscript Found in a Bottle” (1836), “William Wilson” (1840), “Eleonora” (1842), “The Pit and the Pendulum” (1843), and “The Purloined Letter” (1845).

Just another in a long list of fights that won't settle a grudge.

This guy has been blowing up the toy sites, first with the surprise that he was being offered at Walgreens, and then that he would look so good.

He is a repaint of the recent release of Daredevil in his modern outfit. Really, the big difference is in the paint. It is amazing how they could repaint the guy, and have him look so different.

He comes with his batons, this time in red, and this time in a much stiffer plastic than the horrid rubber the last Daredevil had to run around with. He also comes with an alternate head, which is totally awesome. I have already seen people popping the head on the Chameleon body. Guess Hasbro did a good job here. People are going out to buy a second or third Chameleon body so they can have Matt Murdock running around the streets. Then all they have to do is fabricate a cane.

Overall a fantastic figure. A great addition to any Marvel Legends collector's shelf.

Guichon Creek is one of the most significant tributaries of Still Creek, an important waterway in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.

According to a map and materials by Heritage Advisory Committee and Environment and Waste Management Committee of the City of Burnaby (1993), Guichon Creek was named after the Guichon family who were pioneer residents of Delta and who also owned some of the land in Burnaby where this creek is. Even Willingdon Avenue was once known as Guichon Road. In the 1880s a log cabin was built at the top of the ravine running along this major Burnaby thoroughfare. Early residents of the area believe that it was used by sportsmen from Vancouver and New Westminster as a base for hunting expeditions in the wilds of Burnaby where bears and deer roamed free.

By 1912 Guichon Creek had become home to the Phillips-Hoyt Lumber Company which put a dam on the waterway to create a canal for transporting logs to a storage pond and a sawmill located on the site now occupied by the British Columbia Institute of Technology. The pond became a favourite fishing place and swimming hole for the locals.

In 2006, Guichon Creek was restored to largely natural state thanks to the efforts of local wild nature enthusiasts with the support of BCIT.

This is my next project - adding Revoltech joints to this Batgirl.

She's tall and not very articulated and her cape weighs twice what the figure does, but she sure is pretty. I've wanted a Cassie Cain Batgirl figure for ages now.

"The Pit and the Pendulum" is about the torments endured by a prisoner of the Spanish Inquisition, though Poe skews historical facts. The narrator of the story describes his experience of being tortured.

I'm still obsessed. This solo appearance of the seven-hour-old eaglet occurred when the male moved off the nest. The female was there, too. Both remained there together and were there as I was typing this several minutes later. She still had not assumed care duties but was just supervising as I typed, but did by the time this video loaded here.

Here is the link to the Berry College eagle cam.

Please forgive the lousy video quality. It was taken of the iMac screen with my iPhone.

EDIT, 2/23/14: Here's a sweet video, taken by another cam watcher, of the male returning to brooding/incubation duty. It was the very first thing I saw on my iPhone when I awoke this morning. I marvel at how gently the parent moved the tiny bird beneath him with his large, curved beak.

Here is an excellent-quality video of the first feeding.

The story begins in July on a mountain crag in northwestern Norway along the coast of the Norwegian Sea at 68 degrees latitude in the Arctic Circle. The crag overlooks a group of islands and a treacherous tidal channel called Moskenstraumen. In “A Descent Into the Maelström," Poe refers to this channel by a Norwegian name, Moskoe-strom, and a Dutch name, Maelström. Poe’s use of the latter term popularized it among speakers of English, and it entered English dictionaries as a synonym for whirlpool. In 1851, author Herman Melville refers to the Maelström in his great sea novel, Moby Dick, when Captain Ahab says he will chase the white whale (Moby Dick) around the world, including "round the Norway Maelström." In 1870, author Jules Verne mentioned the Maelström in Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, calling it a "whirlpool from which no vessel ever escapes." The Maelström is a real phenomenon occurring off the coast of Norway. However, in the story, Poe greatly exaggerates the danger it poses to seafarers.

C. Auguste Dupin is a man in Paris who solves the mystery of the brutal murder of two women. Numerous witnesses heard a suspect, though no one agrees on what language was spoken. At the murder scene, Dupin finds a hair that does not appear to be human.

"The Murders in the Rue Morgue" has been recognized as the first modern detective story. Poe's Dupin displays many traits which became literary conventions in subsequent fictional detectives, including Sherlock Holmes and Hercule Poirot. Many later characters, for example, follow Poe's model of the brilliant detective, his personal friend who serves as narrator, and the final revelation being presented before the reasoning that leads up to it. Dupin himself reappears in "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt" and "The Purloined Letter".

"The Purloined Letter" is the third of Poe's three detective stories featuring the fictional C. Auguste Dupin, the other two being "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" and "The Mystery of Marie Rogêt." These stories are considered to be important early forerunners of the modern detective story.
