Thought I'd update you on the latest member of my furry 4-legged family - little hammie's been with me just over a week now. I named him "Pippin" (after the hobbit in Lord of the Rings, it just suited him - he's an adventurous little thing!). I'm so pleased with how well he's settled in... I'd been told in the shop he wasn't yet tame and worried he'd be shy. However, whoever bred him handled him well (or he's just an exceptionally confident little hammie!) cause from the start he's been a happy and nosy little character... After 24hrs, I started stroking him, then a little while later, gently scooping him up in my hands]. At first, he scurried off quickly, but now he will happily sit or walk over my hands for a few minutes at a time. He's never once tried to bite or anything :)
He goes out for little adventures each evening in his ball. Of course it's hard to tell with such a tiny creature but I think he really enjoys the explorations around our downstairs. He rolls up and down the hall, the living room and the kitchen, stopping only to sniff an interesting item in his path, give his face a quick wash... or, to investigate Barney!! I'd originally planned to keep dog and hamster apart, particularly when Pippin was in his ball - as Barney is ball obsessed and also a hunter of voles when we're on walks (albeit a very ineffective one!). However as Pip likes to roll everywhere on the ground floor, it wasn't really feasible, so I've taught Barney to be very quiet and calm when Pip's rolling around.
After one quiet but firm "settle down" from me, (he looked a bit too interested on the first evening) he has been good as gold. He actually tries to keep away from Pippin but there's no escape! Pip will spy Barney from up the hall and make a beeline straight for the big dog. He will then sit right up against Barney, sniffing at his paws and fur with obvious interest. Pippin doesn't seem scared, he's happy to groom right next to either dog and doesn't freeze or try and run off... In fact, if I move him away, he often rolls straight back to Barney! Barney lies quietly, deliberately not looking at the hammie and gently moving his paws out the way from time to time. Don't like everything the "Dog Whisperer" says but to use his phrase, Barney's the model of a dog in a "calm, submissive state". Obviously, I wouldn't leave them alone though, it's nice they seem to be co-existing but I wouldn't want Pippin to get hurt...
Anyway, Pippin seems happy in his new home, the dogs have accepted him and he's being very friendly and confident. All going very well really, now, if I can just clicker train him to pose for the camera.... ;-) Haha, will try getting some nicer pics soon, maybe of the odd pair together, reminds me of Bolt and Rhino (if you've seen "Bolt", you'll know what I'm talking about!)
This is an aerial shot of the Tata Salt Plant near Northwich, Cheshire. I believe salt has been extracted in this area for several hundred years, certainly before anyone had heard of Tata. The firm produces sodium carbonate, sodium bicarbonate and of course, sodium chloride.

This is a portrait without much information - actually without any information, but where the personality of the sitter shines through very clearly.
I do not know who this woman is, I do not know the name of the photographer nor do I know where this photo was taken. There is absolutely nothing printed or written on it.
But perhaps I lied a bit when I said there is no information. You can deduce some. I bought it on an online auction in Sweden, so it is reasonable to assume this woman to be Swedish (most old portraits I own has been bought in country of origin). The date is likely early to mid 1860s - based on both her fashion, and the simplicity of the card itself which by the end of the decade were getting much more ornate.
The woman herself must have been well off - by the end of the 19th century and in the early 20th going to the photographer were something most people did, perhaps not often and most likely as something quite special, but they did it. And every little town had at least one photo studio (and many more than that), But this is much earlier when it would have been much more expensive and much less common. But all the same, look at her hand. That is the hand of someone who is using them for work - tanned and coarse. No wedding ring though, so probably not married. The dress itself is in tune with the fashion of the time, but strict and with no extra frills. At the same time she is wearing jewelery - both a brooch and a couple of necklaces. If I were to guess, I would say she is the daughter of a well-to-do but still hard-working farmer.
You are a womyn of peace.
You bring harmony where there is conflict.
You bring light to the darkness.
You bring hope to the downcast.
May the mantle of your peace cover those who are troubled and anxious,
And may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts and in our world.
Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God/dess has made.
Brighid, you are a voice for the wounded and the weary.
Strengthen what is weak within us,
Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens.
May we grow each day into greater wholeness in mind, body, and spirit.
Blessed Be

----------------------------- JESUS ✝️ SAVES-------------------------------
SALVATION THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST - ALONE!
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
❤️❤️ IT'S ALL JESUS AND NONE OF OURSELVES! ❤️❤️
16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the SALVATION of everyone WHO BELIEVES: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. 17 For in the gospel a RIGHTEOUSNESS FROM GOD IS REVEALED, a righteousness that is by FAITH FROM FIRST TO LAST, just as it is written: "THE RIGHTEOUS WILL LIVE BY FAITH." (Romans 1:16-17)
16 KNOW that a man is NOT justified by observing the law, but by FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be JUSTIFIED BY FAITH in CHRIST and NOT by observing the law, BECAUSE BY OBSERVING THE LAW NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED. (Galatians 2:16)
1. Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2. BY THIS GOSPEL YOU ARE SAVED, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4. that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5. and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. 6. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8. and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.
9. For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10. But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me. 11. Whether, then, it was I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believed. (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
7. Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. 8. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9. I am the gate; whoever enters through me WILL BE SAVED. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10. The thief comes only to STEAL and KILL and DESTROY; I have come that they may have LIFE, and have it to the FULL. (John 10:7-10)
1 Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. 3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. 4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.
5 Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: "The man who does these things will live by them." 6 But the righteousness that is by faith says: "Do not say in your heart, 'Who will ascend into heaven?'" (that is, to bring Christ down) 7 "or 'Who will descend into the deep?'" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8 But what does it say? "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: 9 That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13 for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved." (Romans 10:1-13)
Jesus came to bring spiritual LIFE to the spiritually dead and set the captives FREE! FREE from RELIGION, ERROR and outright LIES, so WE might serve THE LIVING GOD! In SPIRIT and in TRUTH!
So you'll KNOW, and not think you're to bad for God to love. The Christian LIFE isn't about how good WE are, because NONE of us are! It's about how GOOD JESUS IS! Because JESUS LOVES US, so much he died in our place and took the punishment for all of our sins on himself. The wages of sin is DEATH, and Jesus took the death WE so richly deserved for us and died in our place. The good news is, there's no more punishment for sin left. WE, you and I were all born forgive as a result of the crucifixion of God himself on the cross that took away the sins of the whole world. All we have to do is believe it, and put your Faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. That my friends is REAL UNCONDITIONAL LOVE! YOU ARE LOVED. ❤️ ✝️ ❤️

We last longer when we are firmly rooted.
Have you ever thought about which living species has the longest life span. It is the trees of the world. Some of the trees are essentially hundreds of years old, and some even thousands.
Have you ever wondered whether this could be because it remains firmly rooted to the earth, and living in harmony with the environment it depends on.
All the species of life which moves live for a shorter time. While these lovely trees seem to live for ever.
Interestingly we seem to think that its a boring life for the trees. Yet it attracts so many things to it, even if it remains there. Birds come and build nests. Insects and other critters create colonies in it. Even humans come and enjoy its shade. A whole social scene seems to be happening around it.
Metaphorically, how does this translate to our human pysche? Will we live longer and more stable if we are firmly rooted to some of our values? Lets reflect.

Standing Firm in the midst of the Storm - This Pelican honestly did not move for at least 10 mins. Just after this shot it bucketed down. Rainy days you sometimes get a break in the clouds and I'm pretty happy with this.
Celebrating the opening of the Bruce Trail... this section is just two blocks from my house. Notice how the trees plant their roots on the firm foundation of rock.
Another undeniable dawn wonder you could skip.Still drowsy from last night's late candlelight burning. Crazily the morning wind at the lakeshore was radiculously gusty and chilly, the moment I was turning around to place camera bag on the rock, the gust of wind angrily blew my tripod down and it fell right on the sand pit,my 14-24 was slightly dented on the hood edge, and the glass touched the sand a bit, no serious damage after a close examination! Still hurts. It happened twice this month so far. What a adventurous and crazy lighting mania! Press L for larger image!
