CLARK AIR BASE, Republic of the Philippines – Petty Officer 2nd Class Andrew Dodendorf pretends to be a heat casuality during a saftey class for Balikatan at Clark Air Base May 11, 2014. Rescue and firefighting Marines and the Philippine Air Force with the Base Operation Squadron learn together about heat casualties and how to prevent or deal them. Balikatan, in its 30th iteration, is an annual bilateral exercise between the U.S. and the Republic of the Philippines and aims at building the nations interoperability during joint planning, contingency, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations. Throughtout Balikatan the conditions have stayed at black flag, so it is important to stay hydrated to avoid becoming a heat casuality. Dodendorf is a preventive medical technichian with Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, Marine Wing Support Group 17, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing. The Marines are with MWSS-172, MWSG-17, 1st MAW.
