Just about the right side of acceptable generic Matchbox castings is this Highway Rescue Fire Engine. The front end looks a tad clumsy but nothing too horrendous with everything else after looking believable with its chunky styling. With so many decent licensed Fire Engine models in the Matchbox line up I'm not entirely sure why there is a need for models like this. This gold version was found in a five vehicle set bought from ASDA in the Christmas period of 2015. Mint and boxed.

Quite possibly a copy of the overtly generic castings which used to be sold under the Fast Lane brand at Toys R Us and indeed still are in countries where they are still trading. I'm not usually a fan of such ficticious designs but its pretty clean in its styling. Part of a 20 vehicles set now appearing at Smyths Toys. Mint and boxed.
Paisley Fire Engine Rally 2013.
It was a wet and fairly windy day at this years Fire Engine Rally so just goes to show that the sky's over Paisley are not always blue...

A 1912 Russo-Balt mod. "D" 24/40. This is actually the only fire engine made by the Russo-Balt factory. It is based on the 1 ton truck chassis and was ordered by Riga Peter's Fire Fighters Association. It was found as scrap metal and was dissassembled in the home of former fire fighter J. Mezhpapans in Rauna in 1976. In 1978 it was renovated by AAK and the fire department of Latvia SSR. It is powered by a 4501 cc, four cylinder, 40 hp side valve engine giving a top speed of 40 km/h.

Construction themed recolour on a casting which started life as a Fire Engine and one which is a cheapened copy of a generic design once sold at Toys R Us for their Fast Lane budget range. The original casting wasn't pretty and this one made by Jieara is no oil painting either with its acres of cheapo grey plastic and lightweight metal. However its design despite being a generic is faintly believable and even features clear lense plastic headlights.

For some strange reason I don't really like the original Matchbox version but when its turned into a cheap Chinese copy then magically it becomes much more appealing! Many Chinese toy makers have somehow found this generic Airport Fire Engine alluring enough to copy but probably the best known and easily available version is the one made by Feisu. It is predictably a bit roughly finished casting wise compared to the original but for its bargain basement status it still remains an all metal model and is fairly crisply cast. Bought back in August for just 50p from a Poundland Clearance store and judging by its High & Drive packaging it is obviously ex 99p Stores stock. Mint and boxed.

Brand new Matchbox generic from Matchbox and one of VERY few now featuring in the line up which is amazing news. As generics go its utterly credible and hopefully won't become a pegwarmer. Part of Case E found recently at Tesco. Mint and boxed.
The Los Angeles Fire Department held its annual Fire Service Day, a community open house on May 13 and 14. Fire stations welcomed all Angelenos as the LAFD Community Risk Reduction Unit, with assistance from CalState University Los Angeles Fire Technology student volunteers and the City's Department of Aging, provided home fire safety tips, hands-only CPR training and fall prevention information.
