From a long and lonely drive into the great basin. Outside of death valley, the sun projects its last touch of light underneath a massive thunderstorm. Moments after I took this, lightning began to arc across the sky.
So that is what that walk was about. Mama wanted a drink. And the kids seem happy to paddle around in the water.

The one and only...........
VTST's Avro Vulcan B.2 XH558 seen on short finals to land at the RAF Waddington 2013 Airshow.
After sterling service both in the role she was designed for and more, she became part of the 'VDF' - the Vulcan Display Flight thrilling the crowds when her brethren were being scrapped and when the RAF finally ceased Vulcan ops she was sold off and acquired by the Walton family and flown into Bruntingthorpe for retirement.
However, after a campaign to ressurect her and a successful application for National Lottery funding, she was painstakingly bought back to life there before moving to her current home at Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport - ironically a homecoming for her as it was also the former 'V' Bomber base of RAF Finningley.
Since then she has wowed the crowds where ever she has appeared but now, with the recent news that 2015 is to be her last ever display season, the VTST team are gearing up for 'sending her off' to bow out in style with a number of UK Airshow and events already booked plus a couple of planned tours of existing Vulcan sites scheduled for the end of June.
With the inevitable progress of time, the news followed the decision by her main sponsors to finally withdraw their support as Vulcan 'expertise and knowledge' has finally slipped from within their respective organisations 'grasp'.
Not only that certain equipment aboard her is either now maxed out or impossible to replace - not least finding crew 'currency' and whilst the VTST had hoped that a couple more years of 'ops' may have been possible, with the corporate 'towel' now being thrown in, Robert Pleming and his team had to make the inevitable decision to end her flying days.
Whilst she may no longer grace our skies after this year's season ends, the intention is to take her forward as the focus of an educational centre based at 'Robin Hood' along with the continuation of live taxi and fast runs at future events.
It will be sad day when the 'Tin Triangle' leaves our skies forever!

The final vehicles to be repainted into Linkbus Somerset livery are Alexander Dennis Enviro200 Darts WA09 RRA/B/C. These were once again included in the takeover. They have gained all of our fuel saving technologies and retain their Devon Express interior due to it being in good condition.
These were involved in an incident in 2011, therefore explaining why these carry the newer headlight style.

I went to watch the huge chimneys at the old Alcan site being demolished today. A sad day really - the utterly final end of a huge local landmark and everything that went with the plant.

Well, it's getting to be that time of year and I start thinking about spooky images. I pulled this one from the archives. This is in one of the cemeteries in Leadville, Colorado.

The sky was totally cloud free this evening so I took my camera along on Troy's walk to try to capture him backlit by the setting winter sun, I threw in a bit of off camera flash to fill in the shadow side of Troy. Harder than it looks I promise!
