Langer Filz

Bog, part of a much bigger nature reserve (4.200 hectare = 10.378 acre). The entire area is a wetland, which has been a lake after the last Würm-glaciation (115.000 - 10.000 B.C.) ice masses melted.

Today several areas are connected here, you can find bogs, fens, marshland...

This is the part called Langer Filz, which is a bog. Not only mosses, sedges, cotton-grass and dwarf shrubs, but pioneer trees can be found here: birch, alder, mountain pine.

The Schönramer Filz is a raised bog in Upper Bavaria, Germany. It has been harvested for peat from the 1920s until the end of the last century. A program for the renaturation already started during the 1970s. Nowadays parts of the Schönramer Filz are a nature reserve.
