Church at 10 Tomorrow Morning,
Conducted by Dr. W. A. Keve, the Pastor
Thomas B. Filson, a Neosho county Pioneer, died at 10:30 o’clock last night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. M. Booe, with whom he had lived for more than a year at 20 1/2 North Lincoln avenue. The funeral services will be held in the Methodist church at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning. They will be conducted by the pastor, Dr. W. A. Keve. Interment will be in Elmwood, beside the body of his wife, who died eleven years ago.
Mr. Filson was 77 years old, having been born in Sangomon county, Illinois, December 17, 1844. His father Leander Filson, was a United Brethren minister who organized many churches of that faith in Central and Southern Illinois in pioneer days.
Mr. Filson was reared on a farm in Hancock county, Illinois. He was a soldier for the Union in the Civil War, enlisting in 1863 in Company B of the 138 Illinois Volunteer Infantry and serving six months.
November 30, 1867, he married Susan M. Kimbrough, and three years later they came to Kansas and settled in Howard county. Two years later they went back to Illinois and were there two years, when they returned to Kansas, settling in Big Creek township, northeast of Chanute, where he lived until his retirement from active life, since when he had been a resident of this city.
He is survived by two children—a son and a daughter—both of this city. The son is H. N. Filson of 917 South Highland avenue, the daughter, Mrs. Booe.
