The Sala mayor is the most important part of the bahay-na-bato where the important guests during special occasions are being entertained. To show off the family's social status, the owners are going to use expensive or imported furniture, figurines, and artworks for the guests. Aside from being the entertainment center for the guests, the sala mayor becomes a grand hall where tertulia (late afternoon parties) and baile (ball) are held. At the same time, the prominent guests of the masters of the house discuss the latest in politics, business, and fashion, while the children lead the singing, dancing and playing of musical instruments (Sorilla IV, 2021).
ABOUT CASA MANILA
Casa Manila is one of the museums and antique shops located within the Plaza San Luis Complex inside the ancient Walled City of Intramuros, Manila. The design was based on the concept of "Bahay Na Bato", an upgraded version of nipa hut or "Bahay Kubo" with accents of Spanish, Austronesian, and Chinese architecture. It is also a three-story structure modeled on the Binondo house of the prominent merchant Don Severino Mendoza. The house features traditional rooms as well as antique objects the rich used during the 17th to 19th centuries.

Bayanihan (pronounced as IPA: [bajanihan]) is a Filipino term taken from the word bayan, referring to a nation, town or community. The whole term bayanihan refers to a spirit of communal unity or effort to achieve a particular objective.
I made my first visit at Barbara's Heritage Restaurant in 2016, and I really love the ambiance of the Spanish-Austronesian atmosphere surrounded by beautiful classical music, and delicious foods. Personally, I really love their paella, and desserts. After six years, I went back to the same restaurant as one of my itineraries in my Intramuros trip.
ABOUT BARBARA'S (from its official website)
Barbara's is located in Casa Manila, Plaza San Luis, Intramuros. A heritage restaurant with two (2) main banquet halls; the Main Dining Hall built elegantly using adobe blocks, with a white lime finish, and the Sala Filipina made up of wood structure c. 1850.
It is part of the grand houses in Barrio San Luis (one of the four original villages of Intramuros), located across historic San Agustin church and bounded by Calle Real, General Luna, Cabildo, and Urdaneta streets. The other two are the Los Hidalgos, c. 1650 and Cuyugan Mansion, c. 1890.

CASA MANILA FEATURE: THE COMEDOR (excerpt from intramuros.gov.ph/cmm/)
The comedor or dining room features a long dining table that can comfortable sit eighteen people. The top of the table is made from a single plank of narra wood. Upon entering the comedor, one may notice the imposing buffet table fitted with a large mirror. The mirror adds the illusion of depth and space of the room. On the other side of the comedor is the vajilera where fine crystal, porcelain plates and silverware are kept when not in use.
Notice the punkah, a manually-operated ceiling fan. The punkah not only helped circulate the air to cool the guests, but also shooed the flies away from the table. The punkah may have been brought from India during the British Occupation of Manila in 1762.
