The classic kit by Revell, originally released in 1957.

This model depicts Fokker Dreidecker 1 (Fokker Dr.1, 'Triplane 1' in English), serial number 425/17.

Serial number 425/17 was one of several Fokker Dr.1s flown by Baron Manfred von Richthofen, and was the one in which he was shot down and killed near Vaux-sur-Somme, France, by British ace Arthur Roy Brown on April 21, 1918.

There is apparently not enough photographic evidence of this aircraft to be able to accurately portray its paint scheme. Manfred von Richthofen described it as a 'rotes flugzeug [red aircraft],' but that doesn't automatically mean it was wholly red.

Because of this, I didn’t try to model it according to the best educated guesses, but instead modeled it the way it has classicly been depicted.

With the exception of the addition of some 10- and 20-lb test black fishing line for rigging and control cables, I built it pretty much straight out of the box.

For painting and finishing, I used:

Revell RVL-34136 Carmine Red

Revell 36188 Matt Ochre

Tamiya TS-68 Wooden Deck Tan

Tamiya TS-6 Matte Black

Tamiya TS-26 Pure White

Tamiya X-10 Gun Metal

Shuttleworth Collection's Replica Sopwith Triplane. This shot was taken deliberately at a very high shutter speed hence the frozen prop!

29 Sq. Eurofighter Typhoon showing off its strengths and capabilities at Farnborough International Air Show 2014. You may notice that despite it have 29 on its front fins denoting that it is from 29. Squadron, it has the Roman Numeral for 30 (XXX) on the tail fin. A popular explanation for this is that when asked to paint the tail of an old RAF plane, the painter was asked to put two X's on one side of the roundel, and 1 X on the other side, however the painter interpreted that as a single X, and not IX as was meant. So, tradition dictates that 29 Sq. have XXX on their planes rather than XXIX

Photo taken from the deck of the USS Yorktown. The Charleston Naval base covers about 1,575 acres and was created after the Civil War to help re-vitalize the city’s damaged economy. By the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the start of World War II the navy yard was well positioned to provide first class support to the war effort. The USS Yorktown was commissioned in April 1943 and served as part of the Pacific Fleet during the war. The USS Yorktown was later used as an antisubmarine carrier in Vietnam and in 1968 was used to recover the crew of Apollo 8.

We saw not one but two fighter jets as we stopped by Father Crowley Point for the second time as we left Death Valley. Can you help identify what kind of fighter plane it is? Thanks!
