The interesting thing about these huge trees is the way they grow around pre-existing trees until they eventually starve them of nutirents and sunlight, eventually dying and providing more biomass for the fig tree.
Evan and our fig tree. It's almost his height now, so I figured I should get a record of it. The tree was probably about half the size when we bought it at the end of April, but I didn't take any pictures then.
So, here's where I'm at this evening. I've worked on this way too much today! I love it though, and with all the pressing and trimming, you really get precise blocks. :)

This collections was inspired by Figtree's California Girls range - I have a jelly roll of this collection earmarked for a Thimbleblossom's "Hopscotch" quilt, and these threads in a 40wt would be perfect to piece or quilt.
I call this collection "Hopping to California".

One of a flock of cedar waxwings that spent a couple of days feasting on a fig tree in Washington County, Oregon.
One onlooker told me to 'take pictures of the police state we're in'. I don't think she really meant it, or was just using the term loosely, but she obviously didn't bother protesting the APEC summit in Sydney in 2007. Whoever it was: Fuck You.

Went to Smith's Nursery today - again looking for the magic tree that is going to complete my backyard. And, although I didn't find the exact tree - I had a WONDERFUL time.
Smith's Nursery has mostly small trees and big Palms ...

He drove us over to this row of tiny trees ... when I asked if he had anything bigger he declared "I can't wait around for them to get bigger! I"m 91 Years Old!" ... Smith's Nursery has lots of trees and palms, and has been there since 1964 -- so if you need a tree - and live in the area, hop over to Smith's and take a ride around the property with Albert -- the prices are great, and the people are marvelous
