The county agricultural commission put up an insect trap in the fig tree in our back yard, looking for Mexican fruit flies.
The ENORMOUS cluster fig tree at Flamingo Gardens. This tree is HUGE! There were clusters of green figs sprouting from the trunk, visible on the right.
This is the oldest fig tree ever planted in South Africa, dating back some 180 years ago. Designated as a national treasure and is located within the grounds of 300+year old Courtyard Hotel in Cape Town
A mangrove seedling. The seeds (or are they fruit?) float vertically in the sea. Snap them in half and they feel soft and velvety. As the tide goes out they stick upright in the mud, and if they take, quickly send out roots and sprout.
Had a very special treat this afternoon, spent a couple of hours watching mother & baby tree-cliimbers at my home.
This baby is so adorable and not long out of the pouch.
I have seen fig trees with strange root systems before but this tree had a hollow in the middle with a tangle of roots inside.

The tree is either a "true" (Indian) banyan (Ficus benghalensis) or a Moreton Bay fig (Ficus macrophylla). I can't tell them apart.
Or the plan for the future at least.
According to Save Our Figs members, Cr Sharpe's nursery is somehow involved in the devious scheme to rid Newcastle streets of it's trees. Some sort of new-for-old scam to line the pockets of a councillor. A quick visit to Cr Sharpe's nursery in Merewether will, of course, show that it is simply a garden nursery.
Of course the reality is Ronneby Advanced Trees has the contract for loads of South-Eastern Australian councils, Newcastle City Council included, and even Australia's parliament house.
Ooooh, maybe they're in on it too?!?!?!?!!!11!?!!1!
