Ruttys Leyland TS7c (xDRT&T 1193!) Figtree

Taken by Vic Solomons and uploaded with his permission.

I visited Tambourine Mountain today to visit a friend, and surprisingly saw not another soul on my walk. This is a beautiful Strangler Fig on the Witches Falls circuit track.

My Mum and Nanna came over to have some chocolate biscuits and a drink, then they went out to the backyard to get some figs off the tree for Nanna to take home.

In this pic is my Nanna looking for some figs that haven't been eaten by the birds, and you can probably spot my Mum in there.

Nice sunny day in Melbourne, a bit too warm for this part of the year! 31.9 degree Celsius!

Trees have such fascinating forms...

Violet Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa Violacea) is one of Europe's largest bees. They are solitary and bore their holes in dead wood (hence the name). This large beast was eating windfall figs in a friend's garden this afternoon. Despite looking fearsome they are not aggressive.

On October 26th 2022 I discovered that a new galvanised walking track bridge had been built at the mouth of Browns Creek, where it enters the Manning River.

A wide concrete path leads to the bridge from the western end of Pitt and Nelson Streets near the old Peters Milk Factory Wharf.

The pathway and bridge allow new access in 2022 from the east across Browns Creek to the Taree Bicentennial Gardens, which up till now have been tucked away and underutilised on a peninsula between Browns Creek and the Manning River.

Presumably the path will eventually be continued east to the proposed future redevelopment of the old Peeress Butter Factory site fronting the Manning River. That project, which has been in the planning phase for many years, will potentially revitalise the historic Chatham Manning River front and will be known as 'Figtrees on the Manning'.

In the longer term it will also extend to Taree Recreation Centre at Chatham.

For now, the bridge gives access from Pitt and Nelson Streets west through the Taree Bicentennial Gardens.

Those who might explore a little further will find that the path through the gardens extends to a new walking cycling trail completed in December 2021 which links from under Browns Creek Bridge along the western side of Browns Creek through mangrove swamp forest and rainforest all the way to Muscio Park.

Another from the Ross/Figtree creek late afternoon wide angle ND110 shoot. Maybe a little dark.
