Fifty days after Easter comes "Kataklysmos" - the Day of the Holy Ghost. In Cyprus it is celebrated by fairs held on the water fronts.
Kataklysmos is a water-based festival that takes place along the beachfront, on Saturday of the Pentecost and Whit Monday.
The date for Kataklysmos follows the Orthodox Calendar, falling each year on Sunday of the Pentecost and Monday of the Holy Spirit.
Protaras is a predominantly tourist resort which comes under the administrative jurisdiction of Paralimni Municipality in Cyprus. In ancient times, where Protaras is now located, stood the old city-state of Leukolla. The city possessed a small safe harbour where the Athenian Demetrius Poliorketes sought refuge in the year 306 BC, lying in wait for Ptolemeos, one of the successors of Alexander the Great.

I grew this tree from a seed in about 1989. It lived in a pot until my parents moved to this house in 1992 my dad planted it by the pond that he made. The cord you can see was used to train it against the wall and at some point it simply swallowed the cord and grew around it. The tree is now so big and cuts out so much light when it is in leaf that it will need to be cut down.

Fig Tree Bay is a sandy beach in the resort of Protaras, Cyprus. The sandy beach stretches for 500m and the waters are clean enough for the beach to have been awarded blue flag designation. The beach, which runs the length of its own cove, takes its name from the fig trees located close to the coast
